good idea, have you tried it with any of the AR Drone apps?
The only controller that I've seen that actually works with the AR Drone 2.0 is "60 Beat" with Drone Ace app.

I find the "fling" thumbsticks work really well and give a good "joystick" feel like a normal RC controller.

Yes, i use ar free flight & its really great piloting ardrone using dualpad 3 joystick
Later i will jailbreak my ipad to use this joystick
But i still figure out howto build ipad holder/klip into dualpad joystick
Because ipad its to f*****n heavy

Hi Guys, Need to ask the AR drone 2.0 Pros

1- Will the drone fly away if the WIFI is Out of range?
2- How high can it go with Anriod Handphone?
3- If the battery is low on the droid and we keep flying it, Will it Crash?
4- Can i Fly it out of a 12 floor hdb flat? Will it drop? Or continue hover as it is?
5- Can it still be stable on a windy days? or will it move around like a rc heli and always need to put input?
5- Have anybody use a wifi router to have fly futher?

Sorry, if u think my Question is stupid, I'm new at this flying RC because always been with RC grounded....
            Tot of getting 1 soon...

            Cheers!!!

              Hi iz77,

I'm no pro but I have been flying the AR Drone 2.0 for some time and will try to answer your questions from my own experiences & from what I've read on other AR Drone forums.

The AR Drone website does have its own forum and is a very good source of shared info about the AR Drone.

              1) when the drone fly's out of wifi range it will stop and hover, providing there is no wind it will stay at that location, if its high up there is a good chance it will drift with the wind. I've run range tests and have been able to get just over 50m range with the drone at 5m flying hight.

              2) Hight & range is totally dependent upon wifi range of the device you are using, I have read some people have had better range with iPad than iPhone. But as its wifi, its very dependent upon the area you are flying and any other wifi's in the area.

              3) if the control device (iPad, iPhone, droid etc) shuts down due to low voltage, the drone will act the same as if its lost wifi signal (see item 1)

              4) I've never tried this, I've read conflicting claims, some say it will stay at the same hight cos of the altitude sensor, others say it will drop to 8m cos of the ultrasonic high sensor.

              5) its a 330 size quad, very light with no "payload" capability. it will be blown around in windy conditions.

              6) I have read some people have managed to use wifi repeaters to extend the range.

I hope this helps answer your questions, I'm no expert but am happy to share what little experience & knowledge I've learnt along the way flying the AR drone.

Its a great quad to fly in calm conditions, easy to control and a good intro to FPV.

in addition to what i wrote on item 5, the AR Drone does have a down-looking camera which is used for position hold in hover, even in mild windy conditions. I've seen mine tilt several degrees while trying to hold its hover against the wind but this was at approx 4m hight and I think it has hight limit as the ground area its looking at will get bigger & bigger the higher it goes.

I usually get 8 to 10 mins flight time on a stock 1,000mah battery, there are some 3rd party 1,300mah batteries available that do fit into the battery compartment.

when the drone battery reaches its low voltage limit it goes into auto-land, which is quite fast and was a bit of a shock the first time I tested it.

So going back to your 1st item, in a worst case scenario, the drone fly's out of wifi range, it will hover until the battery reaches it low voltage limit and will then auto-land.

if you can get closer to the drone, it will automatically reestablish the wifi link and you can regain control.

I download ez builder this uses windows pc to program it. I got it to fly but some how the camera not working. Not sure if it's compatible with hd camera?
Hi Dennis, had download the app but how do make it full screen?

Also had fun this afternoon trying to fly FPV style and avoiding the trees while chasing my son around

I'm now using the Drone Ace 2.0 app with Fling thumbsticks, it makes the Drone very responsive and nice to fly.
Hi bro, may I know where to get the fling thumbsticks?Thx

This is the official Parrot AR Drone forum, I've found it really useful for all sorts of info on both Drone 1.0 & 2.0
