    Yo Janson,
On the spot I feedbacked to the Salesman upon noticing the strong engine virbration on the steering wheel. He claimed he don't feel it at all. Strange.

I told him I drove the Latio, Mazda5, Civic, Suzuki Kizashi and my own car,
don't have such strong vibration. In fact, most of these cars I've drove before don't leave me an impression of such strong vibrating steering.

I did a check on the web, and found some forum with the sale issue on Forte,
and mostly suspect the problem could be due to wheel alignment or off-balancing issue.

Personally, I suspect could be the 17" wheel related.

Nevertheless, the Saleman called me again yesterday afternoon to say he tried on the hatchback Forte, and dont feel the vibration on steering.

Anyway, I told him most of the time, in fact all the time, if the steering vibrates and you have to hold on to it throughout the journey, might not be a good experience.

I think you hit the nail on the head ! ...last time when I 'chng' my JDM Honda Fit 1.5 Vtec from 15" to 17" rims, I also noticed strong vibes on the wheel.

With less rubber to absorb the uneven road surfaces, the 17" will make you feel every small little bump on the tarmac ! ...but money aredi paid so bopian !

...also explains why I'm sticking to the stock 16" on my current ride.

Well like the old chinese saying " lao wang mai gua , zi mai zi kua " . Salesman will never admit the defect of the product they are selling one . Just like the ARMY mo whom refuse to acknowledge the swelling i had on my ankle 1 week after i had sprained it badly . But everyone else could see it ... everyone except him , how co-incident .

          Roger Bro!
Incidentally I just asked my colleagues who has more knowledge then me, if I change to 16" or 15" wheel will I feel lesser vibration?
He said the same thing as what you mentioned, 17" rim amplifies the road uneveness or roughness due to larger area of contact. Unless you use very good 17" tires and tuned up shocks.

I guess the salesman may not noticed the 17" rim difference compared to 15 ot 16" rims since most of Forte's wheels came in 17" size since 1yr ago....I think...like what Bro TWE75 said, Salesman might not admit the issue.

FYI , the salesman even mentioned actually I can look for shops to add additional noise-reduction shields/dampers around the interior if I wan to cut the noise down !

But again, u mentioned that the vibration only comes at high rev-ved right? If it is the 17" rims, shouldn't the vibration be up gradually as the rpm increases?

Is there any problem more to meet the eyes? Not saying the car is not good or lousy but I'm more careful in buying or choosing a car.

now than i know what you mean vibration from steering wheel.
i prefer as road noise from rim compare to 15"rim.
15"rim is more comfort ride for me.
17"rim is more rough and good for cornering at high speed for me.

              juz my thinking.

Your colleagues are right ! ...also depends on what you define as a 'very good 17" tires' ...for someone driving very fast cars and always pushing the limits, 'good' means exceptional road-holding and performance(usually at the expenses of noise and comfort) whereas for someone driving a luxury car, it's the other way around.

The tires play a huge role in road noise and vibrations (assuming no balance and alignment issues), some are quiet until a certain revolution, then all hell breaks loose, the really good one are quite consistant all the way.
Manufacturers have to look at the rubber compond (high silica?) tread pattern, carcass structure, etc, to design the tires.

Good to hear all your advices and feedbacks....I'm just gaining experiences and "experiment" with my current car so when I do really change to a new car, I'll know what to do......

                  Appreciate the help given!

                  Cheers!

I'm on 17" tyres, no steering vibration at all. Using Kumho KU31 tyres, they are rated UHP tyres. One of the cheapest and great 17" tyres. It is also not so noisy at all.

                        John,

You better make a move fast this time round. Else it will be over $100K next year. Ha ha!
If you are feeling down....just pull up the stick!

Bro, no need to experiment with the current car.

What works for this current car may not work for your new car.
Like what ehawk suggest, just BUY A NEW CAR!!!

Actually Jon, it depends on what you want. There is a trade-off between comfort and performance as what the guys have mentioned. At the end of the day, reflect on what sort of driving style you do most of the time. In Singapore, where it is generally stop-and-go, imho, I think comfort is a factor . Yes 17' tyres looks really cool, at the expense of comfort. How often do we do super-duper corners here... not to say tat we dont, but again how often? I think at this stage we use our cars mainly for transport purposes.. occasionally, we do rev her up a little. So, weigh your requirements, as what the bros here have said, and come up with your preferences.

For current prices, go take a look at other cars.... Elantra or i45 is really beautiful!! Or even the smaller cc european cars.
