    1) The motor has a 5mm shaft. You'll need to find the appropriate coupler for it to work.

    2) The stock setup is 12 cells minimum. You'll need 2 x 2S LiPo (in series, making it 4S) to power this setup. 1 3S will not work and 2 x 3S might fry the ESC. In a nutshell, you'll need to invest on 2S LiPos, the high amps kind. I suggest you start from 3000mAh.

You might want to consider this Feigao instead. Your 3S x 2, wired in parallel, should be able to push it without any problem.

Then you can also consider this or this ESC. Just do your own cooling plate.

    Cheers!
    Hi MA,

My motor came in tis week n connected it to the esc from ur recommendation. Powered by 3S2P lipo, the little yamaha was flying across the water in juz 3/4 throttle but the ESC gave way!!! Looks like it was drawing more than 80A!!! Have juz sent the burnt esc back today.

Powered the motor wif 2S2P n it drew 62A at 3/4 throttle!!! The ESC I use to test is only a 40A one, so never full throttle.

Looks like this 7L motor can only handle 2S comfortably. Then the Hextronic ESC is min 3S only so looks like need to get another ESC.

Wah...it has been a looooong while. Sorry to hear about your burnt ESC. Stick with 2S first lor.
For some people it's important to show what they have, for others it's sufficient to know that they have it.

No problem at all, boating is all abt trial n error.

Juz got a 100A esc n will try it next weekend with both 2S n 3S. Now in the process of water proofing it. Hope to get a video of it flying on water.

Ran it tis morning with the following setup and clocked 31+ km/hr on Garmin GPS. Pics unclear, hp camera + reflection.

          JH Yamaha
          - stock prop(42 x 1.4), shaft and rudder
          - Feigao BL motor 7L 3500KV
          - Himodel 100A ESC
          - DN 2150mah 20C lipo on 2S2P

Max amp draw on watt meter - 64A

The speed is commendable. Updated your bragging rights.

I hope you are running 64amps just for the bragging rights. I think it is difficult for the motor and batt to sustain such high amp draw for circuit racing.

One motor that is reasonable and cheap for its performance for the 2s class would be the Lehner Basic XL series. The good one for the JH Yamaha and Bat boat would be the Basic XL 3600 or 4200 kv.

              James,

The boat is not tuned yet and only running at 3/4 throttle. If full throttle, the boat is practically uncontrollerable!!! More tunning needed. The boat is also running very wet, cause the feigao motor is heavy. Thus the whole boat's hull is sitting in the water during the run. Never brought pilers to adjust the trim taps. In fact the motor is still cool after the run, the witness were also there to touch the motor. Quite surprising.

I believe it is capable of higher speed but due to newbie pilot n not tuned setup so only 31km/hr.

By the way, the deans connectors fused together after another run which I pushed it to full throttle, 94A max recorded in the watt's up meter. Need to re-solder with bullet connectors to try again next Sat.

Hope to get it rite for the upcoming race and up to the speed of a SV27 stock setup which was 30-35mph range.

They are the most sort after watt meter ard, cos they do record the max amp draw. Been loving mine since n gotta thk MA for his initiative. If u see one for sale at market place, better grab it fast. Someone looking for one in market place now.

No need to sweat bro, a SV27 can only achieve this speed (or slightly higher) on 12 cells or 4S. Not sure what it does on 6 cells or 2S
If in doubt - add more horsepower!

BTW, if you're using LiPo, make sure the LiPo has high discharge rate coz the 540 will draw quite a fair bit of current. You wouldn't want to risk bloating your LiPo. I'm using minimum 3000mAh 20C LiPo to run my rc car and you'll draw more amps running a boat than a car using the same setup.

What's the specs of your ESC?
how u stick those brass tube? by normal soldering iron??

                                Brushless questions

Some quetions for the brushless guru here:

                                1) I have a unknow 540size 3.17mm shaft Brushless motor. How to tell what spec or KV it is? There is no marking or branding.

                                2) I have a feigao 540S 5940KV motor and a HiModel Navy 70A ESC, Is these two combination gonna work or will the ESC go kaput? If not what motor should I use. I will need a 540 size motor with 3.17mm shaft.

Thanks in advance for any help / advise
