    Yamaha Electric RTR boat

    Hi guys,

I bought this Yamaha Electric RTR boat today at Jet Hobby. http://www.jethobby.com.sg/cgi-bin/e...7&cid=47&idx=1

I have a few questions, which I forgot to ask when I was at the shop. The boat come wif a strong box n two rubber sleeves at its side. I intend to put the rx n esc into the box but the hole in the rubber sleeve is so tiny that I only manage to squeeze in the rx antenna only. How do u guys fit it in the strong box???

Is it necessary to cut holes in the box n fit the wires in??? Then later seal the holes wif aquarium silicone???

Or the strong box is for show only???

I 1st time RC boating, only had 2 toy submarines till tis boat. All advises r appreciated. Thks.

    Hi Adrian,

I oso not so experienced but from my existing boats, I think the rubber boots are largely for sliding rods (ie if your rudder servo is in the box). But looking at your setup, it looks like on the receiver and perhaps the esc would go in the box. That means you can keep the boot and apply silicone sealant to the servo, antenna and batt wires that goes out of the box.

    Nice boat!!!

    Cheers

Wow, I just got into buggy and you got into boat.

Looking very good, where do you intend to ride the boat? Do you need to join some club?

      Enjoy

Love to join you one day. But I have this " See Want " disease since young.

Doctor advise to stay away from temptation. But how to control!-

When I saw the boat at Jet, I also wondered how to squeeze all the wires through the bellows. IMO, you can't squeeze all the wires without surgery. Cut the narrow part of the bellow and pass the wires through. Then use a cable tie to seal the opening. Maybe squeeze in some silicone for good measure. You might need to unsolder the Deans as I think there's no way you can squeeze the connector through.

Water cooling the ESC might be a good idea.
For some people it's important to show what they have, for others it's sufficient to know that they have it.

You're right. The bellows are for sliding rods so I think it's a design flaw. However, there's nothing that can't be corrected. That's the flexibility of boats.

Good advise, looks like have to cut hole in the box. I think I'll cut a hole to fit the deans then, coz it took me an hour to solder those deans!!!

Jet Hobby dont have water cooled esc leh, so juz bought what ah mok recommend lor. He said mostly its home made ones n readily availables r very expensive.

I'll try it n find out!!!

Jet Hobby do have water cooled ESC. I saw it a few weeks ago but I think it is overpower for your boat. It is like 60A ESC size.

Can easily make one out of brass tubes and plate.

BTW, if you're using LiPo, make sure the LiPo has high discharge rate coz the 540 will draw quite a fair bit of current. You wouldn't want to risk bloating your LiPo. I'm using minimum 3000mAh 20C LiPo to run my rc car and you'll draw more amps running a boat than a car using the same setup.

What's the specs of your ESC?
