    Multiplex AcroMaster - Building tips

    Dear All,
if you have built this plane before, pls give your feedback and any tips.
3 things first I need to know
    1.What brand/type of glue used.
2.Any reinforcement used eg. Carbon rods/strips.
3.Are the original hinges for the control surfaces good?

    Thanks in advance for sharing

    Mr Pink Bun,

I am sure Leon, William or Ronnie will come in shortly to offer you some of their experience. From what I have observed, the Acromaster is a balsa killer as proven by William on my Yak 54... It has survived that mid air with a piece of my cowling still stuck in its wing, landed inverted, flat spin inverted to ground, wacked lampost and all... William decided to use it as a night plane flying without lights and the damn thing is still flying today.

What do you think? I sure as hell do not think you need to reinforce it further IMO. Just build it as per instruction.

    That answers your question 2.

I will leave Q1 and Q2 to Leon and William, they will know better.
Stop looking for a gyro in my plane, they are all in the head.

            1. I have recently built an AM with bob smith 10-25sec extra thick CA. Works really well without any kicker used.
            2. The only place i've reinforced is the inner side of the nose area. I've used 1oz glass cloth to glass the inner surfaces at the nose. There is a weak point around that area so glassing it may be a good idea. It's mentioned in the rcgroups AM thread as well. You can read up more inside.
            3. Yup the original hinges are good enough for anything you throw at it.

Here's a pic of my AM

              Hi madflurry,
does the CA hardens very fast?
For the front reinforcement, I guess I'll have to skip it cos I've no experience with glassing and neither do I have the tools, but will take note of the nose weak point. Guess I've have to be careful how I crash the plane

Oh, forgot, your plane colour and design looks cool! I intend to use Pink too

Yup it harden quite fast. After joining the 2 halves i just have to hold it around 10 secs. But it is adviceable to wait for maybe around 5 mins to let it completely cure.

Actually it was the first time i glass something too. It's a very simple job. All you need is the glass cloth and epoxy

Just to add (eventhough I don't own an Acromaster), sand off the injection mould marks for a nice smooth finish.

                      Cheers

Of course he has to make it look nice, it's the last one from NTC of the current batch. Has to make it look good.

                          Hehehe

                            AM Building tips

For joining the pieces I used thick ZAP thick CA from NTC. I sanded the internal surface to be joined as smooth as possible before applying the CA.

The plane is extremely well engineered, so aligning the parts should not be too much of a problem. I have to agree that the weak part of the AM seems to be at the chin/cheek air intake area. Glassing it may help in giving strength to the thin foam there. I used 1mm thin ply CAed on the inside bottom of the chin area But having said that the AM does not need any other extra carbon rods or reinforcement.

You may want to consider some filament tape for the wingtips as you have seen my AM bounce on our tarmac and the tips may scrap on our road.

You'll be using a big brushless so make sure you assemble the motor mount in the right orientation using good amount of CA here to get it to be strongest possible.

The hinges are good enough, just make sure you cut the slits accurately.

Otherwise not much critical hotspots for the well designed plane... The stickers are a bitch though...

                            happy building.

                            Cheers,
                            Leon

hmm... Leon you so crude using the word on the sticker , I the way you put it.
Wonder why you and william singing same tune on the sticker ....
I'm using a AXI2820, same as yours but lower KV. The plane I observed, is very bouncy on landing, will do up the wing tips like yours/
As for the reinforcement on the chin of head, I'll explore around, maybe use plying on inside, but will need more research before committing.

Leon, btw what brand CA you used????

                              Thanks!
