The next thing you'll need after building one of these is to practice your javalin throw. technique. Launching and flying these kind of planes seems to me to be an art form by itself. Incredibly fast flying machines for the speed junky.

For long thin foam wings requiring joining like you said, if I only have the tip and root template in hand, is there a way to extract the middle template from these to do foam cutting?

      Thanks!
      Cycross,

I always use Autocad to draw the templates after importing the profiles from Profili. As such, making intermidiate wing templates is always possible at any wing station.

For such thin wings, you can't use a single full template at each end. The templates will be far too thin to stay properly pinned. It is also not practical as the template will be too flimsy.

For each end, I split each template to 2; that is upper and lower halves. The lower template will have the upper wing surface cut to shape and and upper will have the wing lower surface cut to shape. You must consider the foam thickness you are using when making the templates.

White styrofoam is everywhere. Blue foam can be purchased from Art Friend and I got the pink foam from a hardware shop at Yishun along upper Thomson road.

Too early to tell. This is my first attempt of moulding a racer fuselage. Dunno how it'll turn out though.

After dissolving the foam by pouring thinner, the fuselage is true revealed. The sidewalls were a still little soft and I laminated another layer of glasscloth internally to beef it up. So far so good.

Not yet, but I have white and red 2K paints. Still a long way to decide what colour to go with. Anyway, the urgency is to make it to the race.

sorry bro, may I ask a very "simple" question..

what make these plane fly so fast? it is the profile of the wings, the motor?

because for me, they just look like a glider (eg the hotliner) or maybe a mini glider, but as my glider also installed with a 400 BLmotor, it dont really fly that fast...

                      can anyone enlighten me.. thanks

You may want to check out the specs of these pylon racers and compare them with your glider, most of these racers are extremely small and light weight, also the wing profile as made for speed in mind.

The main difference lies on the powerplant and the propellors. Gliders uses very high static thrust but low speed setup to climb steeply. Racers use very small prop with high pitch and high RPM to propel the plane fast.

ic, so weight is one of the factor,

ok, so does that mean if I replace my TT ehawk1400 gilder with a smaller prop with higher pitch, it should "pull" my glider faster like a pylon.. hee hee
