Finishing up the last bits of the fuselage sheeting for the Piper, and got the Spitfire fuselage epoxied. You know you've been away from building too long when the micro filler hardens and even adding water doesn't work anymore. Jury's still out on the Deluxe Ezkote, it came off with the 3M scotch tape I used to hold the fuselage halves together. Have a few more steps to finish off the Piper fuselage but the Spitfire only needs the control surfaces, linkages and spray painting left.

A little slow posting but here's the sheeting done and mock up. Should have the fuselage done soon. Had to stop to fit the right tubing internal diameter for the landing gear piano wires. Some work to be done on the tail feathers leading and trailing edges .... Sanding. And the Spitfire's remaining control surfaces before I spray it.

Has anyone got insights or know of a scale Piper Cub wheel / hub that's between 45mm and 50mm? The only ones I e seen are Robart but that's for the 40 to larger sized Pipers from Great Planes. The one from this kit is a vacuum formed wheel that's got the scaled Cub hub setup. Had a quick peek at the stores in Fook Hai and JH but no joy.

Spray painting the Spitty
Here's the before and after for the bottom gray of the Spitfire. Thought I had to use the Tamiya acrylics but had some decent advise from the hobby store in Sunshine plaza to use stuff from Art Friend... And what better than a huge tube of paint for $5 that's water based but dries waterproof. Anyhow, the mucking around continues for the GWS Spitfire.

Didn't get anything done w the Piper! And could do much on the Spitfire with the kids around. Here's the panel lines on the bottom. And pictures of the acrylic paints. They are water proof but only after the paint dries. I had some rain droplets on the gray and they smudged. Managed to wipe off the mess and respray.

Still sorting out the various coats of the dark green now. Really should have primed or base coated. Some new learnings with acrylics and the impact on a smaller airbrush. Residue build-up is fast. Need to get more practice on airbrushing again. Has not been as easy as mix and shoot. More troubleshooting this round. Need to get back to the Cubby's wing soon. For now, will clear the next few layers of the green and work the topside panel lines.

Finally done with the top camorflage. Got over the airbrush issues. Thought I'd add a good link for some airbrush tips.

Will work the panel lines and maybe some weathering next. Also, have the exhaust and gun ports to work on. Happy to have some scale camo exposure. For now, need to get back to the Cubby's wing.
