Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35: Is it a good camera?

I'm thinking of getting the lumix FZ35. Its currently on GSS for $599.

Basically i like the super zoom and has a faster shutter speed. From the review i've read, it seems to be the best among its range.

Anyone using or owes 1? Like to know if the battery can last and is there anything better at the same price range.

    Thanks

Instead of a prosumer, why not consider a budget dslr, since the price difference is not a lot. The larger sensor on a dslr really improve the image quality.

I did but I'm not really into photography and instead of a budget DSLR i could get a better point and shoot camera.

Correct me if i'm wrong but if i want to get something close up or something far away, i need to use different lens for a DSLR? Also i can't really find any average DSLR with a budget of $600

Have you considered LX3? Only about S$650 from Parisilk.

LX3 is the only camera I have for over 2 years and yet the price holds like a rock.

I paid $695 when it first launched. I indentified as one of the best camera made and jumped in. Some think otherwise. Common complain is the zoom not enuf. If you ever review ALL the shot in your collection, I can be assured you seldom shoot above 70mm. I do not have my stastic but I agar ard 2-3% of the shot taken is beyond the range of LX3. You can overcome by going forward.

My sis is still using my LX3 and I got myself Olympus EP1. Pic quality wise will be better on the EP1 as the sensor is bigger.

If I can only bring 1 camera oversea, I will leave the Olympus EP1 behind.

            Above solely my opinion

            Mike

From the Basic Specifications i read between the 2, LX3 don't look too appealing.

Look at the LX3's large CCD size, don't look at megapixels size.
                Megapixels don't count for nothing.

The large CCD is what makes the IQ very good.

BTW, CCD sensor size is not shown on the spec you posted.

                    Bro,

The more the pixel, the noiser yr pics will be if both are same sensor size.
10.1 pixel is more than sufficient.

The strength of LX 3 is the wide angle of 24mm. The other top-of-the-cream feature is the F2.0 aperture. This enable you to shoot in lower light condition. The LX 3 leica summicron lens really produce power pics. The macro / closeup feature also dam power one.

i know at least 2 LHS is using the LX 3 for product shots

Do a search on LX 3 in clubsnap.com

FZ35 has a smaller 1/2.33-inch CCD, 12 MP, more pixels
LX3 has a larger 1/1.63-inch CCD, 10 MP, less pixels
CCD area per pixel is larger for the LX3.

Digged up this website comparing the 2

So meaning the CCD makes the pic sharper?

In reality, unless you’re very demanding and continually shoot magazine quality pictures, most times you’re better off with a fixed lens digicam with an extended zoom range
i think the above review i last read sets my purchase on the FZ35. Big Thanks for the feedback yo.

Mike,i like taking things far.... this will zoom even further right?

larger sensor area per megapixel results in lower noise and makes you able to attain a shallow depth of field for a nice bokeh(out of focus background) by shooting with wide open aperture.

Picture sharpness more or less depends on the lenses used and can be manipulated digitally through image editing softwares.

Im sure there's a number of LX3 users here so maybe you guys could post some shots to show him as well

I say go for the camera with the largest sensor!
