IF you want to build a rocket just stick to 65% potassium nitrate and 35 % sugar or sorbitol. It is really the safest when you want to produce it and performance is quite OK. Use the excel-sheet on Richard Nakka's site to calculate what the performance (and thus maximum height and distance) will be. With that you decide on where it is safe enough to launch.
Or else, just buy your propellant and rocket from a shop as an ARTF-kit.

Always check if your rocket is stable before you launch it, else it will fly into populated areas (happened to me once). Stability margins needs to be between 1 and 2: Center of pressure needs to be 1 to 2 times the rocket's diameter behind its center of gravity. 'Too stable' will make the effect of windgusts too large, and unstable will get totally unpredictable trajectories.
A stable rocket will always turn INTO the winddirection.

Always stay at least 50-100m away from any motor that is fired, quite some of them explode.

Whahaha this is getting interesting.. nice to know some flyers share the same other interests.

              Where to get pure KNO3:

                    Rocketry

I rem doing these stuff during my science project, the formula mentioned is actually a crude "gunpowder" formula. I rem producing a very loud bang that socked my whole class.

The potassium nitrate can be substituted with ammonium nitrate. Used to be able to buy many chemicals off shelf last time, but after 911, many items are listed as "prohibited" chemicals.

I'm intersted to try rocketry again, let me know when u guys wanna try. Perhaps, by modifying simple sparkler to start off.

                    Just my $0.002

YES,i have sucessfully exploded my Cherry Mom and Cherry Bomb III .basically it is pounded sparkler powder wrapped with clay and heated for the clay to harden using a hair dryer.a sparkler stick(fuse) is stuffed into the clay while the bomb hasn't been fully moulded.watch out for any cracks when heating and quickly patch them up.when they are first fired(successfully) ,the sparkler stick would shoot out (yes, there is thrust) and sparks would be seen shooting up abt 3metres up in the air and touching tree leaves till something bad happens like a crack in my instance and the sparks would fly out of control cos of the cracks
I have took some pics and videos of it but cant find anywhere to upload them except on RunRyder but i would have to wait till monday to upload them.someone please tell me where i can upload them.thnks

i have used sparklers wrapped in magazine paper and made them fly as rockets pretty high into the sky.

have some videos but don't know how to post.
