    mCPX now avaliable with GOVERNOR!!!

    Dear fellow mCPX Users,

I am proud to bring to you guys this great news. As the title has mentioned, the MCPX is now able to be Governed by a third party ESC...
The current method of Governing that is accomplished at the moment is a
"Reactive" Governor where the MCPX would increase\decrease its power once the rpm falls below the pre defined RPM...

Using this method, known as flashing of the ESC, we now are also able to use the ESC to run a tail and main brushless set up without the need for a convertor. The exact potential as described by the guys a helifreak are as follows,

    The code supports:
    - Brushless tail. Get rid of that heavy SR120 tail motor.
    - Governed main. Get consistent cyclic and collective response in hard maneouvers.
    Other features are:
    - Parameters programmable from TX
    - Optional pitch to tail mix in governed mode.
    - Allows build of ultralight main and tail ESCs (<0.4gram).
    - Both v1 and v2 3in1 boards are supported.

This is a completed model that i made to make sure this system works prefectly and it does...

            Operation manual

            Normal operation:

Once the battery has been plugged into the 3 in1 board,

            - Ascending Tone is heard

Throttle needs to be on Throttle Hold before the initialization can begin
Next release Throttle Hold to begin Initialization

            - Long Beep is heard

The maximum throttle during this interval sets the throttle target for the governor.
Once you have set the target, flip on Throttle hold again to end the initialization mode

            - Long Beep is heard followed by the Motor Powering up

            Entering programming mode:

Once the battery has been plugged into the 3 in1 board,

            - Ascending Tone is heard

Full throttle to enter into programming mode

            - short beeps

Throttle hold to comfirm entry into programming mode

            - short beeps

Full Throttle again to begin programming mode

            Programming mode:

This works very much like your castle programming mode.. the beeps represent the number in the menu.. Throttle hold to comfirm entry

            Programming functions and parameter values:

            Programming parameter value table main:

            Function
            1 - Governor P gain 0.38 0.50 0.75 1.00 1.50
            2 - Governor I gain 0.38 0.50 0.75 1.00 1.50
            3 - Governor mode Tx Arm Off - -
            4 – Low voltage limit 2.7V/cell 3.0V/cell 3.3V/cell - -
            5 - Startup power 0.50 0.75 1.00 1.25 1.50
            6 - Pwm frequency High Low - - -
            7 - Rotation direction Normal Reversed - - -
            8 - Input pwm polarity Positive Negative - - -

            Programming parameter value table tail:

            Function
            1 - Tail gain 0.75 0.88 1.00 1.12 1.25
2 - Tail idle speed Low MediumLow Medium MediumHigh High
            3 - Startup power 0.50 0.75 1.00 1.25 1.50
            4 - Pwm frequency High Low Damped* - -
            5 - Rotation direction Normal Reversed - - -
            6 - Input pwm polarity Positive Negative - - -
*: Only enabled for ESCs specified for 1S operation only. Default for the ESCs where it is enabled.

In the governor “tx” mode, the throttle setting will set the speed target for the governor.
In this mode, the throttle curve when flying should be flat.
In the governor “arm” mode the maximum throttle seen during the arming sequence will set
the speed target for the governor.
In this mode, the throttle curve when flying does not influence headspeed.
Throttle curve can be set for the desired main to tail mix (this mix is in the mCPX 3in1)
Governor P gain sets the proportional gain for the governor.
This setting controls the gain from speed error to motor power.
Governor I gain sets the integral gain for the governor.
This setting controls the gain from integrated speed error (summed over time) to motor power.
            Document rev 2.x
Tail gain scales the power applied to the tail motor for a given input.
Beware that a low tail gain will also limit the maximum power to the tail.
Tail idle speed is the speed of the tail motor during the delayed stop.
High pwm frequency is around 20-25kHz, and low pwm frequency is around 8-12kHz.
One benefit of using a low pwm frequency is that the step from almost full power to full
power becomes smaller. On the other hand, 8kHz is in the audible frequency range.
The damped pwm mode for the tail makes the motor retardation much faster.
It is only supported on some ESCs (where both nfets and pfets are driven directly from the
            MPU) .
If for some reason there is an error in the eeprom/flash write operation (e.g. due to loss of
power or low voltage), defaults will be loaded.

A tip for optimizing governor performance:

You can decrease the rise time of the feedback control system by decreasing the proportional gain P to its minimum of 0.38 (from the default of 1.0). This results in much quicker return to the desired headspeed when disturbances are introduced (e.g., under sudden collective/cyclic input). Governor performance greatly improves.

When testing using a tachometer with a governed headspeed of 6300 RPM (2S, HP08S, 9T), moving from 0% to ±50% pitch results in the following delay before headspeed returns to 6300 RPM:

                    Proportional gain P = 1.0: ~2 seconds

                    Proportional gain P = 0.38: < 0.5 seconds

Increasing the integral gain resulted in no noticeable improvement, but decreasing it resulted in much longer rise time (longer recovery to 6300 RPM), as expected.

Note that you should play with the gain to determine the best value for your setup. A "cut-down" modded mCP X, for instance, may behave poorly with such low P gain.

Theoretically, lower P gain should also result in more overshoot and longer settling time, but the head's inertia (system damping) prevents this, as the motor cannot speed the head up fast enough to see it. Also, there is more risk of control loop instability.
                    Regards,
                    Xuen7
