        Advantages:

        1) Relatively Cheap - i mass buy from a LHS and got a discount. i remember i think slightly less than $20 per piece, so total for each pack is about $60... cheaper than good lipos, more expensive than china brand lipos. so its middle ground as far as cost.

        2) FAST charging - if ur charger can take it.. u can charge more than 10amps even.. this translate to under 15mins charging.

        3) SAFE - very important..

        1st A123 booboo: i use 2 3S packs in series for 6S packs.. but i screwed up. used one charged and one uncharged pack.. uncharged pack became super hot and one cell popped and leak juice..

        2nd A123 booboo: i shorted one cell when i plugged in my charger wrongly (i charge 2X3S in series with balancer tab) balancer wire immediately melted and smoked... i redid the balancer tab and charged the pack. up till today i still using that pack and no difference at all with the rest.

        if any of the above was done to Lipos.. i guarantee Lipo Fire...

        Disadvantages:

        1) lower flight times - NOTE! this is not a real disadvantage cause Lipos eventually will "die off" and you cant get as much flight time out of it when its old. A123s just keeps going on and on.. 1000+ cycles reported on rcgroups. just search A123 there..i cant find the thread liao..

        2) Larger Voltage Sag under load - A123 nominal is 3.3Volts, but will drop to about 3Volts or less even under heavy load. this results in possible loss in Headspeed. (hey... nothing is perfect!) remedy is use a HIGH kv motor.. recommend about 4000 KV. 2 options easily available.. Turnigy or Scorpion 2221-6.


        2) Can the T-REX 500 use A123 ? what is the setup
        , e.g A123 6S 2600mah
        yes, 500 size is either 6S or 7S A123. check with helifreaks for more details. alot of ppl using. i was flying protos with 6S A123s. no complain... cept 500 size abit too big to fly at my house downstairs.. so i sold it. 450 still getting much more air time.

        3) Can the T-REX500 uses 4S , what 4S setup are the same
        as 6S or 2 x 3S1P (2600mah or higher)
        4S would be too low for 500 size. 4S A123 = 13.2 Volts.

        like i mentioned, best is either 6S or 7S A123s for 500 size helis.


        Good luck with all considering A123s as an alternative power source!

          , if no , I can alternate my flying by using LIPO and A123

              No special electronics needed.. just make sure u disable your low voltage cutoff for ESC if not will cut out early cause lipo voltage higher.. wait .. if u do that make sure u have timer for flying lipos if not overdischarge

              hmm other factor is that if u use lipo gearing, ur A123 set up must be close in voltage. for eg.

              6S lipos = 22.2V is abt the same as 7S A123 = 23.1
              if u go with 6SA123 will not get the same headspeed.

              lastly, align and A123 doesnt play nice cause cannot disable LVC if i am not mistaken.

              How many is considered mass order? Which LHS?
              I have a 2221-6, whould like to try it on my Beam or MT.
              i bought in packs of 10 from sky hobbies. scorpion 2221-6 is going to be better than my turnigy. (abt 400kv higher) so u might try 13 teeth pinion first. if u do hard core 3d then up HS lor. for me 4000kv with 15 teeth pinion is enough. my setup WILL bog if u dun be careful about collective during flips etc.
