3 Qns regarding futaba R146iP receiver

    Hi

Think I post here as I am intending to use this rx in a heli.

I just bought the above receiver and have 3 questions:

    1) Is this (PCM) better than the Hitec Optic 6?

    2) Is this rx suitable for use with nitro heli?

    3) I got an airtechnic rx and crystal that i use with my 9C, can this crystal be used with the futaba rx?

1)Sorry but question does not really make sense
    2)No.
3)You could try. I know futaba single conversion xtals work on airtechnic rx but not sure about the other way around.

I think Kam may have made a typo error on point (2). Should read as..??

      2) Is this (PCM) better than the Hitec "ELECTRON 6 Channel FM Receiver"

        PCM vs Q-PCM

If I understand correctly, Hitec's PCM implementation is known as QPCM, as discussed in an earlier thread.

As to which PCM method is better, pop over to RunRyder. This thread has some interesting plots.

Ay yes, my mistake, i always mix up the hitec tx (Optic 6), with the rx (electron 6).

Not comparing futaba PCM to hitec QPCM, but the Futaba PCM vs Hitec FM. Should be better right?

Went back yesterday, plugged in the airtechnique crystal and it works. But the weird thing is that the crystal is labelled FM. Its working in PCM mode.

Not sure if I'm imagining it, but after trying it out, the servos seemed more "acurate", as in the resolution like better.

Also when i was using the hitec rx, somethime when i give it full collective, the aileron servo would glitch abit. With the Futaba, its super smooth. Using HS65MGs for all cyclics.

Glad to know that your crystal works in the Futaba Rx.

PCM is simply a way of coding the control signals to the Rx. If I am not mistaken, PCM/PPM uses FM to transmit these signals.

Just some things you ought to know

We have quite a few weird incidents involving this receiver at PFW. All used on 45 inch and above 3D planes and they exhibited PCM lockout problems which resulted in losses of the planes. Though the range is 300m, we are pretty sure we have yet to go beyond that range and it even happened right after takeoff. 2 different freq as far as I know but same problem.

I tried searching around forums for info on this and couldn't find anything. But it seems like a problem and thought you guys might to watch for it and do a range check to be sure.
Stop looking for a gyro in my plane, they are all in the head.

                  29 band

I dun think it is something to do with the band cos a lot of us are using the full range ones with no problems. I am been using mine single conversion for ages too. Just strange there is an increasing occurrence of troubles with this particular receiver.

                    R146iP receiver

                    Hi

May I know why R146iP receiver is not suitable for Nitro, I bought a 2nd hand one. Intend to use for my Nitro heli.

                    Need some enlighten

                    Thank

mostly because of the range i suppose... nitro helis are bigger so u probably fly further..

though the range is say 300m, signal degradation may begin ard 100m. if it is bad enuff it can cause the PCM rx to go into failsafe mode and lock ur controls out
