no worries, we're all here for knowledge, no one can know everything

the lightning thing is very interesting...are there any websites where one can read up more?

i would think aerodynamics may be a big part of it. the rotor grips and hub are like spokes of a bicycle wheel, which create turbulence when in forward, even slowly speeds, because the rotor rpm is still high. just like speed bikes have solid wheels to cover the spokes, i would think the same thing about the rotor heads

BTW, Super Puma also has the dome on top of the rotor head.

No one die. If u want to watch it again, do take note on the repeated telecast.

          Hi,

If you are refering to the dome on top of the main rotor blade, it is just a cover to prevent water from entering the inside of main rotor head. For those on the apache, it is a radar or eye.

                Back to the original topic,

I spoke to a super puma engineer. The so call dome, they call it umbrella is nothing more than a cover, there is a hydraulic vent below.

As for U.S. Heli with dome, not only U.S. heli has it.. Sea King, Lynx (both British Heli), Eurocopter also have it.
