    Lamborghini C-1 Cat

Just started assembling my Kyosho C-1 Cat. While waiting for the polyurethane spray paint in the engine bay to dry, I surfed the net and learned that the Cat is based on the "Class 1" UIM offshore raceboats... almost all powered by twin 8.2 litre Lamborghini engines with a top speed of over 250 clicks over rough water

Anyway, here are some photos from the "Spirit of Norway" website... think she's the current leader of the world championship series. Also included some pictures of my plastic imitation ... wonder if the PU paint is dry yet?

If in doubt - add more horsepower!

Thanks Stuka, I'll be sure to let you, Mad A and Zanter know when I float her for the first time in Ponggol May need some electric rescue boats... in case the engine quits while running-in

Thanks Mad A... look forward to running with you again at Ponggol.

Me will now imitate Master Stuka with a photo-log of the Cat project... only my thread is going to be a lot slower so you'll all need to be patient

Only managed to assemble the engine mount and bolt on the Kyosho .21 marine engine tonight... would have done more but can't stop gawking at the motor... the anodised head and big bore slide carby looks pretty sexy

Will start work on the drive train and the outdrive tomorrow... stay tuned

BTW, I sprayed the internal tub black so it contrasts better with all that aluminium, chrome and technical bits that will eventually find their home there... one thick coat of black expoxy and an even thicker coat of clear polyurethane... almost suffocated from the fumes last night

If in doubt - add more horsepower!

Was aiming for this weekend, but work is gettign quite busy... didn't start work on the Cat til after 10pm last night So, looking to Maiden Sunday 24th

Came across some problems when assembling the Cat... the black engine tub you see in the pictures does not sit well in the hull... it is slightly shorter and a lot shallower than what the instructions suggest. As a result, the engine mount bolts (which goes through the tub and the outer hull) needs to go through some rubber spacers (which I havn't bought yet). Otherwise, the floor of the tub will be compressed by the bolts and cause alignment problems with the drive shaft. Nothing that cannot be fixed, but annoying and a little different to my other Kyosho boats where all the parts came together very well.

                      Hi Zan

Nope, she's clutchless... nowhere as high tech as your NVee

Just finished assembling and mocking up the driveline. Haven't epoxied the driveshaft to the hull yet becuase I'm not happy with the clearances. She looks fine at the outdrive end, but the ball joint at the engine is almost falling out of the drive bolt The engine has been mounted as far back towards the prop as the factory drilled holes allow. Will play around with this tomorrow Gotta get some sleep... another long day ahead

If in doubt - add more horsepower!

Does it mean someone gotta throw your Cat into the water?

BTW, noticed a rather large hole at the end of each sponson. Are they for autobailers?

Guess that would be you, using your frisbee technique for hot lauching your ReefRacer

Yes, those hole are for the autobailers... or extra propshafts in a return-to-shore system like in Zanter's boat

Do let me know when's the maiden then. I better start practising my throwing skill.

She's on schedule to be maidened next Sunday... wasn't happy with the lack of hull rigidity around the engine mount so I epoxied a couple of hardwood bearers to the outer hull. The engine mount now bolts through the tub, the bearers and the hull.

Here's a photo update of the progress... left with fuel tank, engine exhaust and radio installation... which means I gotta buy a radio early next week Wonder if anyone is selling a good FM rc in Market Place
