Charger becomming incredibly hot when charging 3s 5000mah lipo .

Hi guys , i've noticed that my charger gets incredibly hot when i'm charging my Voltron 3s 5000mah 35C lipo . The charger i use is the KDS POWER RC-6S . It has even manage to melt and deform the plug , plugging into the charger from the adapter making it deformed . It is in ok temperature when charging other capacity of lipo batteries from 3s to 2s . In fact its pretty cool to the touch when i charge 2s .

Is this normal or should i upgrade my charger to be safe ?

Quite sure something wrong. Check the following

    1. Does it happen for all 3s battery ? If yes, confirm charger is an issue

    2. If not, check does it happen only for 3s 5000 mah batteries ?
    ie amp is an issue.

    3. Are there any exposed parts touching each other ?

    etc.

Charge in lipo bag when u testing the above.

For a 5000mAh lipo, and you charge at 1C, that's 5A. This is the max charge current that your charger can put out, according to the spec.

Let's find out the power, which is roughly 11V (conservative estimate, as it can go up to 12.6V near full charge) multiplied by 5A = 55W! And your charger spec says only max 50W! Likely then the charger caps the charge current to keep the wattage just at the max.

So of course your charger gets pretty hot!

Charging 2S, the lower voltage and current results in lower charging power... so it runs cooler.

Icic , and there's another thing i forgot to say . The 3s 5000mah lipo battery can't seem to be charged til 12.6v one shot . Meaning ,from what i msee just now when i tried to charge both the 3s 5000mah lipo , the first balance charge will charge til abt 11.5v or 11.7v per 5000mah lipo then the charger will sound the alarm indicating that the lipo has reached its max . Then when you charge it again using balance charging , then it rise til abt 12v or 12.4v then the charger will indicate lipo max again .

I wonder if you can charge at a lower C?
Such as 3A and not 5A.
This way, the charger will takes a longer time but safer.
            I love PAP
