How to convert 3S lipo to 2S

I need to get 5 packs of lipo converted from 3S to 2S configuration, i.e. from 11.1V to 7.4V.

Any idea if this is going to be easy ? How do you do it ?

If not, can I get a step down device to step the voltages down to 7.4V ? What device can do it cheaply ?

No problem with soldering by me.. but didn't want to risk opening up before finding out how to do it..

So I guess its pretty straight forward ?

Question for me is, it is a 3S.. so I presume it has 3 stacks of cells inter-connected ? So it is as straight forward as clipping off wires, leaving just 2 cells intact and then resoldering them back onto the charge leads and balancing leads ?

i think most of the time the battery tabs are aluminium, impossible to solder. I wouldn't do it unless the cells are dead.

i would just sell the 3s and buy new 2s

I did crash my plane and one of my the cell in my 4 cells LIPO is dead.. I open the wraping and desolder off one dead cell.. pretty easy.. converted 4 cell to 3 cell the difficult part is getting another 3 cell balancing connector(white), have to savage from a dead 3 cell Lipo.. and the cell + & - must be correct...

Then come another headache... how you warp back the lipos?..

Can use the Bamboo plastic wraps...

Why you want to do such a thing? So drastic. You converting to car, is it?

                    Yup..

Convert to car, dont want to make my car a frying pot of melted black cheeze..

Unless there's some step down devices I can just plug it in.. that might also settle my issues.

want to convert because I had 5 such lipos with 3S and I really dont want to sell them away..

Something similiar to what you are doing.... http://www.rctech.net/forum/electric...w-do-i-do.html.

To remove the double sided tape sticking to both cells, pour lighter fluid over it and let it soak for a while, maybe 3-5mins. Get a used credit card to "slice" the double sided tape apart. You should be able to get them apart. This was taught to me by zennith.

I have bad experience with Lipos.
I was trying to attach a JST plug to a 1s lipo and it shorted out.
                            It burned very hot. OMG!
                            That was only the leads.

IMHO, not a good idea to open a lipo and mod it.
