    Lipo Reveal....interesting

    Hi,

I managed to open up a damage Single cell Lipo Battrey.

First it release some smelly odor after the seal packaging has torn down.

This cell is made up of so many layers of "capacitors"...which believes store an energies.

The Black sheet is actually a black chemical coating on a piece of very thin copper layer then sandwitched together with single silver insulator then arranged in a proper manner..stack up together piece by piece ..and eventually would becoming a "single cell".

this vulnerable sheets of layer is very fragile(black powder coating) to my experience....that is why make sure you dont simply damage your lipo..whether it has dented or knocked..for sure it would gets hurt.Meaning to say your lipo effeciency would badly effected..hence its life time .

So next time,if you wish to buy used lipo under marketplace, do a check on the lipo battery physical condition first expecially on used Lipo battery. We never know what would hapen to these black coating
    .

      Dear FlyFly

The black plate is graphite (anode), another portion is Lithiated Oxide (cathode)

      refer to attach pic

BTW the chemical Lithium is very toxic (cancer causing) and also the fumes can cause explosion when contact with moisture and will ignite. Lipo manufacture wear mask and clean room suit when they handle this so beware for safety and health hazard bro.

Battery maintance and life can be refer to this link (read to understand as knowledge , note the chemistry changes - DNA intercalation link):

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intercalation_(chemistry)

flyfly, Every year there are new technology advancement and numerous new products release in the mkt for battery korea japan china taiwan e.g. fuelcell , A123 and other make, even highter "C" rating etc.

As PLIB utilizes aluminum package film as the shell, and once safety problems arise, there is no explosion but only expansion. The safety requrements are as follows: http://www.dn-power.com/v2/Battery/PLIB-intro.asp

Short Circuit: No fire, no explosion.
Over Charge: No fire, no explosion.
Thermal Test: No fire, no explosion. (150℃ 10min)
Puncture Test: No explosion. (Nail dia. 3mm)
Impact Test: No fire, no explosion. (A 10kg bar dropped from a height of 1m on the cell)
Fire-exposure: No explosion. (Use gas to burn the cell)

What is release, know and publishes and is for referances types. Chemical can be very reactive (diff MFG diff chemical grade esp china make-like milk ppowder), skin cells penetrating and toxicfying fumes inhale could result...

I still strongly would like to caution you on the safety and respect Lipo Batteries cells (dispose, storage, charging and usage in proper) not to open it.

Will you dare to try... what they do have done? Short Circuit, Over Charge,
Thermal Test, Puncture Test, Impact Test.

Testing may have rec/done in CHINA (RMB "Yuen", milk powder can be fake so what else is can't).
