Sweet Scent from Lipo

Hi,

I notice that, there is a kind of sweet scent coming from my lipo..? What is that? Is it dangerous..?

I have put them in zip lock bags now..

check your lipo see got any holes/tear anywhere or not. I have a pack of lipo with a small hole at the side and it produces that sweet smell, so far still working and no bloating...so I guess it should be pretty alright if you watch out for bloating...

some have reported smelling a very very faint sweet smell even from lipo in perfect condition...I can't smell it though...

Airborne,

Your lipo pouch is compromised. For Lipos to work safely, it must be in a vacuum. I suggest you neutralise it by soaking it in salt water before you discard it.

Someone on another post asked -"How much salt and how much water" I m trying to figure that out too. So far from experience of soaking lipo, I cut away the +ve tab all the way down where it expose the inside.(Be careful not to short it while cutting. I dissolve about 3 table spoon of salt into half litre of water and soak it for a few days.

the salt is just there to create an ionic solution so you dont need much, one tea spoon should be enough to do the job or more it wont hurt.

What brand of LIPO is that? Do you check cell voltage and re balance them?

The voltage and power is the same as before, they are from Jet hobby the long type.

One major failure of lipos is the seal at the tabs. If the pack builder overheat the tabs while building it it causes the seal to fail over a short period of time.

I normally epoxy the seal area before I do first charge. Use high temp epoxy, one that is good for 100 deg.
