    RC Flying Kite in Singapore

Hi to all, I'm a newbie here in the forum. been reading for quite abit b4 i decide who 2 look 4 a RC kite. got a good chance to see flyers @ Bt Timah after roti prata along the corner, seen flyers beside Carlton trying 2 compare w the building’s height, flying ris-cross @ Padang while tourist walking along the footpath, massive lights set up beside Riverside Pt during weekends....etc All these places tat u can see ppl flyin r run by all 3 different person.

from comments, word of mouth, see see look look, scouting, surfing website, talking to operators... i found out that all of them r trying very hard to make business out of this 'firefly'. and also claimed 2b the "creator" of the little rip-stop kit. My personal pt of view is, dont hv 2 claim tat u r the "creator" cos every1 nowadays r very free 2 surf e net and enquire who is actually the maker. Re-design or modification shld be the word 2 use. Posting article on the papers claiming u r e "creator" will be a laughing-stock 2 others. Not forgetting also selling 5000 pcs overseas without GST! Someone from somewhere must look into tis, purely advertising gimmics or true…

    Things tat i found out:
    - RCkite, run by William(Acehobby) & Mike(GoFlyKite) b4, things didnt turn out well i suppose, both run their own business at e end.
    - Thathobbyshop, run by Chris. did joined w Mike 2 learn abt firefly 4 awhile but split @ the end also.
    - Rotor, SHS, Jet-hobby even Mr Chan had firefly in their shop with different designs but the shape is still quite silmilar.
    - GoFlyKite, run by Mike. currently flying at Riverside over weekends.

I was running ard plc 2 enquire abt tis new 'toy' i wanna buy until i met Mike shopping too @ Rotor. He give me a brief intro abt tis kite outside e shop n invite me 2 join him @ Riverside. Next, I was having prata w my family n kids @ Bt Timah till I saw William flying there, a lady came over 2 tell me abt this firefly of theirs. “this is a crash proof RC kite n the flyer is in control”. Do u thk so if there’s near miss happening when I saw him again @ Padang ground flying pass the pathway? Is tat ok 2 fly @ SRC n SCC ground? Lastly, Carlton Hotel, flyers cramped @ a small corner, lure tourist walking pass the area. Fireflies climb high up beside e building w full speed. I also got a chance to see them hitting a passer-by along the sidewalk, lucky, not big of an injury. Cars stops 4 the traffic light, gazing @ the sky and later recv horning fr the vehicles behind when turns green. I was then @ Riverside watching Mike’s group so happened that one of them hit a passer-by n immediately he told the flyer 2 stop n issued ‘yellow-card’…”wat yellow-card I asked”. Mike explains, he is very particular abt safety for anyone here, flyers, watchers, passer-by, tourists….etc. in Riverside. Lucky again, the passer-by jus recv a shock of her life but walked away quietly. Any flyer caught flying dangerously will be banned from flying for a period of time at Riverside. Then I can see that particular guy was sitting quietly at the corner watching others, this was a few months ago. recently I went there again to my surprise they hv safety lights 2 stop public walking in the flying zone. Wat I can say is impressive, at least an effort made 2 secure public from injury. Visiting the shop gives me another surprise as those that I saw @ other hobby shop was pin up dated yr 2002- yr 2003. and they came out w Pro 3 (3rd generation design). Besides the common firefly designs there’s still bat shape, manta ray, scorpion 2 etc… workshop desk n flight simulator in the house.

I actually didn’t knw why I went through so many procedure n time for this hobby but I’m sure tat by the end of the day. I’ll be happy 2 fly w a group tat is more organized.

I’m still keen 2 purchase a set 4 my son n myself but currently still looking ard 4 the best. U be the judge, who shld I go to…

Lastly, hv anyone seen a Lamborghini Murcielago running along Orchard Rd with a probation plate sticked front n back?

Moral of the story: be safe and if you cant handle big toy, try something basic. If you hurt yourself its fine. Wait till you hurt someone else, the whole RC kite industry might be ‘killed’ by you…

hi CKTan what u are saying is right safety is very important i have been all the shop that selling rc kite n i still think that go fly kite is still the best they fly safely n also they teach all the newbie 2 fly not only that they also teach u how 2 repair ur own kite 4 what i now most of the hobby s... they don't teach u 2 repair ur plane or kite. Go Fly Kite have after sale service.

Jet hoby also is a nice place 2 go Mr Moh also is a very good guy he will teach u what he know went u ask him something even u don't buy any thing from him.

Rotor also very good only thing the sale person they don't know more about rc (of course not all)

sorry is say something wrong no mean 2 offen other ppl

after 1 week and over $50 spent at Rotorhobby, I can say that R/C kites are definitely not meant for beginners. ( I tried the EFD dragonfly) They may be crash-proof, but they are not that easy to control as Rotor claims, and not very beginner friendly. I urge interested parties to examine the models that are being flown by the advertisers and the sold products. Also, for the price that any shop sells the kites for, it's not worth the money and terribly over-priced.

HI CKTAN I agree with u abt flying at calton. The place is small and very near to 2 major roads..Couple of times i`ve seen ifo shooting up the sky above the road then glide down.Maybe the owner have full confidence with his equipment. It set me thinking.....what if one equipment fail??....what if the failure cause it to hurt someone or damage a car waiting for the lights to turn green???They`re using 3 cell which i feel the power to weight ratio is too much for the ifo to handle and we`ve seen wat damage 3 cell can do

it happen to the owner of the ifo....but it can happen to anyone else ard.. so let enjoy rc with care and caution and not trying to do a/m stunts thinking we so good at it that nothing can go wrong.... because in the end we could be the one who`s very wrong at the same time causing a national ban on rc flying outside restricted time and location. Think abt it guys....could b a wake up call for us all.

The RC kite or IFO is certainly no begineer plane. I too own a few & build a few. Seems they all fly the same. Just how good the flyer is The IFO is more like a 3D plane where you can do fantastic stunts. I remember how badly I crash & how many props I broke initially So do that care with that thing & one of our kaki here actually gotten hurt by it before. I certainly do not agreed of flying them in a public place like padang or near Carlton. What flyer is in control is bullshitting.... cos you never know when your electronics can fails or the wind condition may change etc & caught you off guard. Be a responsible flyer

Let me tell you guys why, It 's all about business. Why flying at the place where most of the people is moving around so poeple will stop by and ask where to get it and how much it cost? When they know people start asking it will most likely this deal will close. Just see how this IFO or Firefly or even RCKite they are like fighting for who will get the most sale from their so call creation can 't we just have fun with this kit plane seen it is just a RC right................?

Thanks for all ur replies, I've 2 apologised 2 the moderator as i accidentally post 2 similar post on the forum.

yes i do agree w jameswilliam. u r all doin business 4 urself but extra pts will be added 2 ur company or flyers if safety is piority. not only the players r enjoying a safe rules fr the club but also those interested party will find u more organise. everyone simply jus wanna enjoy this hobby but if someone jus 'kill' the market w some "self business strategy" then i thk its totally unfair 2 genuine flyers.

To be very frank, until now, I'm still skeptical abt who 2 go for but of cos I've some pts from more experience flyers here to make my choice.
