    Multiplex Blizzard

    Hi guys,

Just got the blizzard. Not sure going to go for their tuning sets, kinda ex tho. Anyone here has setups using other than the mpx tuning sets? Can share?

    Cheers!

    I used hyperion z3013-16 985kv, spin 12x8 prop, 60amps esc on 3s 2250mah.

Fast but the wings flutter at dive full throttle.

      I used the Turn-ni-gy motor
35-42c 1100 kv (equal to AXI 2820 size)
      With a Turn-ni-gy Plush 60 amp ESC
It spins an 11 x 7 prop on the MPX Blizzard spinner
and draws 45 amps on a fresh charge battery
Goes vertical up, can just lightly chuck it
Didn't dive at full throttle through, more fun than a barrel of monkeys

Hmm... I see u guys go 60amp for the esc. Going for assurance I see. Dennis, ur setup spins big prop, any particular reason? Sunstorm too. It was recommended for 9 x 6 at 1400kv, what make u guys change to lower kv and bigger props?

I was like you, didn't want to spend the extra $$$ for motor set so I used what i had. This motor I used on my ehawk 2000 (2m vs 1.5m). it an overkill for the blizzard so i figure "what the hack" better to have more power than no power. I had the blizzard for sometime with all the bashing, so after a while, I gave it to a friend who decided to take the plane and meet someone in mid air.

if you planning to overkill the plane, u really need to find a way to strengthen the wings. if you sticking around the tuning set power output, well it should be fine.

Well, I went to hobby city and rcgroups to do research before hand. Wanted to have the option of going 4s with smaller prop later on. So, 11x7 on 3 cell can later downsize to 9 x 6 on 4 cell.

But I never got down to going 4s and later sold it cheap to a friend after I got tired of it = )

Also it is recommended that you do the Blizzard fibre-tape wing mods. You can look around on rcgroups for it. It basically means fibre-taping the wing tips and ailerons for flutter prevention.

Rcgroups has a very good build thread about Blizzard in the slope section.

If you wanna go the MPX recommended tuning set you can look at the HK Turn-ni-gy 35-42A - 1450 rpm/v but go no higher than 9 inch

hope this helps, I sympathize with you in advance, building the blizzard is a real pain = )

Thanks Dennis & Sunstorm for the feedback.

I'm just gathering info now as there's been too many setups of blizzard in rcgroups and other sites and did not know which to choose. I have a few existing motors in the 1000-1300kv range, which should be fine. My next step will be getting the right spinner size and the props, besides the usual servos etc. Any idea on what spinner size should i look for? Or else, I'd just bring the nose cone to compare sizes at the stores?

Sunstorm, thank you for the heads up on the fluttering, the issue is a big matter that when comes to fluttering, it is always equal to blizzard. Heheheheee....

Guys, worse comes to worst, I'll go powerless and bungee on the blizzard. Hehehhehee...

The spinner size is 40mm. The prop is up to you =)

Powerless? Slope season coming soon, you know, don't need to go that route = )

The problem is you have to use MPX spinner for blizzard. This is because there is no cooling inlet on the fuselage and the MPX force you to use their spinner. So far our LHS don't carry the turbo spinner or not that I know of.
