    My 600mm Mugi EDF

Having built the 1.1m Wingspan Mugi , attempt to try out somewhat smaller scale.
It is the 600mm Wing span Mugi(24 Inches).
It is power by a 55mm EDF and a 3.7Kv brushless motor.

    The specification are:-

    1) Winspan 600mm (24 inches)
    2) 55mm EDF and 3.7KV/V brushless motor.
    3) 3S lipo from 1550-1800maH
4)Static current around 18amps on a full charge packs

The Mugi is modified with an elongated nose for stability.

The Plane maiden and flew pretty well.
Here are a few pictures taken last week end.

This plane is very agile and can do pretty fast vertical rolls and acrobatic flying.

    Cheers and more next time.

      small mugi EDF (cont)

      Here is the video.

Small EVO mugi only 600mm(24ins) wing span on 55mm EDF.Plane flew fast and fun. Nose extended for stability.Sound of the EDF is incredible.

There momemts I when I almost totaled the plane...

      Thank you for viewing.

      Cheers

        mugi-triple edf project

Here is my latest project ...a triple mounted EDF.

        Specifications
        1) Wingspan 1m
        2) CP thickness 3mm
        3)material corrugated plastic
        4) EDF 55mm GWS with improve impeller adapter
        5) Motor Walkera 3.2KV(20x40mm size brushless motor)
        6) Current with a good 25C 0r 30C 3S 2250-3500maH lipo =39-42amps

Flying characteristics : Very stable & track straight at various power. No bad habits.
        Launching: Initially tricky ...

Maiden Successfully on 22nd July 2010 after 3rd attempt.

Further improvement to hand launching characteristics by adjusting the 3 EDF thrust line upwards by adding a 3mm shim on all three EDF so the exhausted is pointed more upwards.
There are some videos of the maiden but not ready.

        Cheers

          Gosh, jaw drop.

Heck, let's make it a QUAD EDF?

                My SPAD EDF jet

Got this idea from a friend.
                Hope to maiden this weekends.
Material is made up of 2mm(wing) and 3mm thick CP material.
Wings are folded to get a sort of airfoil.

                Cheers

Using carbon tube as spar and oso to form airfoil shape??

                    Hi, Trailblazer ,
If you use a carbon rod on a flat surface wing, my opinion there is some airfoil but it depends on the thickness of the carbon rod to consider it having significant effect as a airfoil. It also depend if the carbon rod is at the top side or bottom side of the flat surface wing.

In my SPAD the airfoil shape is significantly improve because there is a short length of tapered CP spar running lengthwise along the wing. During folding, this additional spar will prevent the airfoil shape from collapsing.
The carbon spar as shown on the picture ,merely act to increase the strength and rigidity to the wing.

Note SPAD is acronym = Simple Plastic Airfoil Design

                      My SPAD EDF jet maiden

Maiden successfully with a heavier LIPO pack. I use 1750mah instead of 1250Mah 3s to get the correct balance.

Very nice to fly. Unfortunately due to a bad landing , the fuselage was too distorted to make a second flight.
Need to re-build a better and stronger fuselage.

New S.P.A.D. EDF with aerodynamic fuselage

I have build another EDF jet using C.P. materials. This one is built with a functional fuselage using 2mm sheeted ply. The fuselage is designed and shape to provide some degree of lift when the plane is at level flight or (intended) for knife edge flying.
Its fuselage is tough and strong and lightweight.

The aircraft wil be re-fitted with a more powerful EDF motor .

This plane is very stable and fun to fly.

                        More Next time.

Watch the DIY micro-interceptor EDF in action.
                          Very nice to fly.

Hi, I am interested to know how heavy is the setup. It looks really heavy during landing.

Hi L.G. if you view the video towards the end, there are some descriptive info. The wingspan is 26inches(660mm). Weight ready to fly is 470grams.
This plane is very light. Very easy to DIY launch.
If you flare the elevator at the right moment, the aircraft will slide nicely on the grass.

Meanwhile, I just install an upgraded EDF out runner motor . It will run 3000rpm higher .
                                Current consumption increased by 3amps.
The new motor will run approximately 43,000rpm at 30amps on a good 3S Lipo.
Will see how it performs today if the weather permits.

                                Cheers
