    Beginner's Boat

hi guys..i would like to find out what kind of boat is suitable for beginners...

is there any specific draft requirements?

i would prefer electric type as it is cleaner..

not too fast, preferably a tug boat type..

did a search and there are a lot of recommendations on the boat from mustapha which cost about $60..where can i find parts for it?

Traxxas Villian EX is quite a good beginner boat to begin with....powerful enough to bring u a long way, parts carried by Rotor Hobby, motors/esc, servos all replacable....Twin motor, RTR, etc...

i started with it but found out boating is a bit boring for me..
I have one RTR kit in excellent condition to let go.

Frankly, if u're flying heli, i think u won't go to any other RC hobby liao lar.. :P

They'll probably bore you out like what happened to me and my boat now...
only sitting at my shelf, working very hard trying to look nice...

This not only happened to my boat RC stuff, but also to my other suface RC toy...bought them thinking they can rekindle my love for them, but end up still loving helis the most...so no time for the other areas of RC.

hi wtp, dixon..thanks for your advise..will do a check on this sv-27..is this a fast boat? i'd prefer something slow and easy to control..

yes, i still fly my heli..in fact, i'm still very passionate about it..just thought of venturing into something that my wife and i can enjoy..i failed miserably trying to get her into heli..

yes, there is this dilemma of whether i will truly enjoy it but if i don't try i wouldn't know..just like how i felt before starting on rc helis and now its extremely difficult to give up on this..each time you overcome a challenge it brings you to a different level of thrill, excitment and joy..well, with due respect, let's not talk about heli here

here's is another reason for wanting to try out boats..my block is facing a very beautiful pond so i thought i shouldn't let it go to waste..

this pic is taken from my bedroom this morning at about 730am using my canon camera..its a little blurred out though..hmm..maybe i should learn how to use a camera too...so many things so little time..

Wow That's a very nice neighbourhood!

Dixon's Villian would be a great electric boat to get started with... can go as slow or as fast as you like. It's also more interesting if you meet up with other boaters with similar machines and race... otherwise, it can get a little bland. Many of the wives of the regular boaters at PP now have or are getting their own boats to join in the fun (see the Reef Racer thread). Anyway, we spend more time chatting and having a meal afterwards than actually running our boats... the boats just give us a reason to get together on Sundays
If in doubt - add more horsepower!

Come down to Punggol pond on Sundays. Chances are that u will see many different types of boats and something will catch your fancy. If u can fly heli, a fast boat should be easy. U can consider Villian Ex...nice boat.

I think as in many hobbies , its the people and the socialising thats more than 1/2 the fun. The boating community in sg is small and friendly so pop down and pay us a visit

thanks..its a nice place and i must say the view is one of the main factors that made me bought this unit..come stay in bukit panjang and you can teach me about boats..hee...

and would agree that what makes this hobby so interesting is partly the nice ppl that you come in contact with..

err..not thinking of racing lah...cos scared can get pretty expensive like cars, buggy...but i can imagine the fun though..
