    2nd planes in Marketplace. Beware!

I bought a 2nd hand easyglider from marketplace precisely after reading that it was a great plane to learn for a beginner after beaver.

I TOTALLY REGRET buying it! I really trully feel CONNED BIG TIME! Paid $280 for it and realized

    1)the wings were broken before.
    2) Freaking T plug for ESC was soldered wrongly and when a friend helped me to connect to the battery pack, it blew immediately. I called seller up and he insisted there was no correct STANDARD. WTF! (wrong polarity! I was informed by everyone at Punggol Field it was soldered in wrong polarity from the STANDARD! Mainly because they all follow what goes with the deans already on a STANDARD 20C Lipo)

    3) After installing a brand new ESC, another easyglider expert friend helped me to trim it in flight and realized something wrong with the motor! Bloody gear on the motor shaft came loose and was worn out!

After my CONNED experience with this 2nd hand plane, I swear never to buy used planes unless they are NIB at much lower price. Because in the end, its totally not worth it! I would have been able to get a brand new setup with the money I paid! PUI!

Please only buy from someone you know really well! Sorry to rant here but I feel newbies need to beware before they always go for cheap cheap cheap.

I really felt very demoralized after this experience and it didn't help that some expert airplane friends said I soldn't have bought it.

Quite sian about this hobby now that I have spent so much and still cannot even get it in the air yet because of so many problems.

I should have stuck on with Fly Fishing and Air brushing instead.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Take it as lesson learnt lor...

Not all 2nd hand items are so lousy, I do have good and bad experiences. Overall, just be more careful next time, if there is another next time.

Just to be fair, buyer also need to do his/her part by spending some time to check the item or ask seller to state the problems/defects on the item. Buyer has the choice to buy or not to buy after inspecting it.
After so many years, I am still a beginner

Oh. I feel your pain. I went through it before. Shop people sell me wrong things. I wish I discover DH forum then.

Bring a friend who is not a beginner?

never rush yourself into buying what seemingly is a good deal.

Do some research...talk to pple who flew that product...and know the in and outs before committing yourself.

Frankly...be it second hand or not...it doesn't mattr...some shops I know of sell defective things too....this hobby, is a hobby where things are expensive...and also when intrigue, you will rush into things....after some time...you will not be rushing into things already...sadly..this will be after some expensive lessons learnt.

On a side note...if you bought the plane from another beginner...he may not be able to tell you what went wrong anyway.

                  yo cookiemunster,

                  do not be despair!
get conned when buying 2nd hand stuff does not only apply to RC.
it also happens when people buy 2nd car, house etc.
so, one thing i learn is not to be hasty in buying 2nd hand stuffs.
do research and solicit advise from fellow flyers before making any commitment.
hope you are not discourage to pursue this hobby because of this incident.
look at the bright side, you have a good transmitter to begin with.
let's put it to good use and start flying....

well.....check the physical appearance..... any cracks or signs of repairs....

As for the electronics, I did come across someone who sold me a lipo & the dean connector was soldered in a different way from my other lipos. I can't say he was wrong because that was the way he is used to.

                      Hi Cookie,
From your post, it seemed like you are still new in the buying of pre-owned stuffs.
I am not siding with the seller, however, as in any purchase, caveat emptor, i.e. buyer beware! No one else is responsible for your decision. Hopefully, the next time you purchase pre-owns, you can consider:
                      1. bringing an expert along
                      2. check if there are market price available
                      3. ask for some form of assurance or warranty (Suresh sold me his AXI silver motor and told me to return if I am not satisfied)
                      4. ask detailed conditions of usage, wear and tear and care of product
                      5. make counter proposal if you think that the product is overpriced or you can find it elsewhere

Hope you will not let this set back make you loose interest in this wonderful hobby.

Hi thanks for all the advise and feedback. I did do some research and still I thought I knew enough. I wanted to ask an experienced friend along but none were free. Nonetheless, its not the first time I am buying from the internet. In fact I order most of my stuff online even from overseas.

However, its obvious that the problems I encountered were deliberately hidden and not honestly brought up. There was no way I could test it because I had to deal following his time which was too late at night to test fly.

But anyway, I am not lamenting to ask for any reimbursement or justice. I just want to highlight to the rest to just be more careful than me and less trusting. Its always a risk buying online especially from people you don't know. This is the point I am trying to highlight to the rest. I am not a newbie to online buying or 2nd hand items. But I am a newbie to RC planes and stuff. Its just too bad for me I could not get someone along to help me before I made the purchase.

Hm.... I understand your pain and I guess the most you could do is to post his nick in the "not so good guy list"

boss, the usual standard is that the red positive is wired to the vertical top-bottom bar, while the black is wired to the horizontal left-right bar.

i also bought 2nd hand stuff before and the same happened to me. smell funny smell right? i blame it on myself for not checking but i think whoever solder is also weird. its like even if a 2 way road in singapore got no arrows, one would drive with your car on the left rather than on the right!

that's why i ALWAYS recommend beginners to buy new from shops. even if i sell stuff, i always advise beginners that its better to buy from the shops if its their first time.

you eliminate the possibility of many man-made problems which the previous user created by buying new.

My very first purchase here on Daddy Hobby was not exactly nice too. Bought a heli canopy which the owner said its new and no dings and scratches.

True theres no dings and scratches but he didn't mention theres a crack at the bottom which I found out too late. Its just 35 dollars so I just let it go, next time round I'll be more careful.
