As it was raining at OHR at 9am, I drove to Pandan Reservoir to try out my old toy boat (Torpedo 5) which was bought years ago for my children. I had converted it to run on a 3S battery recently. I was surprised that I was the only one there at 9.15 am.
The water was calm. Shortly after I had launched my boat and found that it was moving well, I noticed a young Indian man about 10 metres away looking at it. I could see that he was amazed to see my boat. I invited him over and asked him to take over the remote control. He was rather hesistant at first but after some persuasion and encouragement, he could move the boat around on the calm water. I could see that he was enjoying himself. As I had two 3S battery packs with me, I allowed him 15 minutes to manoeuvre the boat.
After nearly draining out all the power from the second battery pack, he thanked me for giving him the opportunity to play with my boat. We chatted for a few minutes. I found out that he is Mr Ventakesh, an Indian foreign worker. He has been working here for a few years. He told me that it was his first experience with a rc boat. I felt very happy when I left the site knowing that I have shared the joy of rc boating with another person. Both of us will remember this chance meeting for a long time.
Here are the pictures of my Torpedo 5.
