whats the diff - UBEC vs Voltage Regulator (can capacitors)

    hi guys

whats the difference btwn using a UBEC and a voltage regulator
    (eg, on JH website).

am i right to say the UBEC can use power from the main batt to
    power the receiver,
while voltage regulator is meant to be powered by a seperate batt?
in which case, what is the difference between that and powering
the receiver directly with a proper receiver batt?

since on this topic, what about those capacitors that you connect
to receiver (not the ESC)? those are supossed to give temporary constant
voltage in case sudden drop in volt?

reason i'm asking is cos i was bench testing my plane. had
installed retracts and a couple of times, while deploying the retracts,
i noticed my esc re-armed. what cld this mean?
(btw, using HK RedBrick 50A esc. had 3A BEC...not too pleased with ESC
    performance)

    thanks!

I think the difference is the input voltage rating. Regulator can only take up to 2cell 7.4v lipo but ubec usually can 3 cell 11.1v lipo and above.

      thanks for the reply.

anyway to update abit OT. the 50A Redbrick ESC from hk is lousy.
does not give full range of throttle response and built in bec confirm
easily overload and causes esc to reboot
