    Spektrum DX6i battery pack ?

Original unit uses only 4 AA rechargeable batteries.

Will the unit be able to run on a 2S / 7.4V Lipo pack ?

    4 x 1.5 = 6V
    Lipo is 7.4V

Do I need to purchase any step down devices to bring voltages down to acceptable level ?

Anyone did this light-mod please help.

I have a 2S Lipo that is now unsuitable for my plane because it is underpowered and wish to save it for more meaningful purpose than to sell it off.

Safer to use a UBEC to bring down to 6V or 5V. A 2S lipo fully charged is 8.4V !

I thought Tx Lipo Packs are running on 11.1v?

Its not the takeoff and flying, its the landing and repairing, so that you can takeoff and fly again...

DX6i is not like other Tx lah.
It only uses 4 AA batteries. Very efficient power usage.
Actually I wouldnt even bother to use lipo.So much trouble and it probably wont fit. I think a lipo of a size that will fit won't even give u more usage time.

Rechargeable AA batteries will last you at least 4 days and many hours of flying if you don't use it for simulator also. If you do then at least 2 or 3 days before you need to charge again. Maybe you even have to charge more often with a lipo than with rechargeable AA.

Or you can get a Sanyo Eneloop rechargable, it may last longer than the default battery pack.
