gonna start heli, the servos always recommended in this forum is the hs-65 & hs81, but there are 2 types of hs65, so which is the one?
1. hs-65hb
2. hs-65mg (more expensive)
For the 3 cyclic servos, either a set of 65HB or a set of 65MG can be used. 65MG are metal gear and 65HB is non-metal gear.
In a crash, non-metal gear will strip more easily than metal gear. However, the gears can be replaced, so it's more of whether you want to spend the efforts to replace stripped gears.
However, do note that metal gear may also stripped in a bad crash. I know someone who has to replace the metal gear because there was a nick in the gear caused by a crash. The servo was jittering because of a nick in the gear.
Both metal and carbonite gets damaged in similar crashes.
Something's gotta absorb the crash impact, if not the metal gears, then the locating pin slots in the servo case will get elongated as well. All these will lead to excessive deadband, poor centering and irregular rotational smoothness and speed.
Metal is more expensive to replace as well.
Let's say a flyer doesn't crash, metal gears tend to wear faster and develop slop faster compared to carbonite and even nylon gears.
Not to forget, metal has higher weight, hence more inertia, leading to slightly slower response time overall.
Above points are just some of the ones for your reference, however, how many flyers can actually feel the difference, that's very much individual.

btw, abit OT. been going thru daddyhobby these few days, did alot of reading. u posted a thread on the LGT-2100. may i know how different is this gyro from futaba 240 & 401?
