chances are its for the batt supply to the rx.

      ppm or pcm,
last time, there is fail safe function only for pcm,
now, newer ppm rx most have it too.

      really depend on your preference.

you may want to tell us your rx model ?
high chance doesn't mean it is.

for electric plane, normally the rx power is supply via the esc, or bec.
for nitro, will need a rx batt to supply power to the rx.

yes, just match the same freq xtal on both tx/rx, make sure the tx is set to ppm or fm. try to use the same brand of rx and xtal to avoid freq problem, best is to bring your tx down to shop to test and buy.

                    tx need a tx xtal.
                    rx need a rx xtal.
                    both ppm or pcm.

just bring yr tx+module and rx down to any dealer/LHS, call them first to
check if their xtal can use for sanwa, then go, don't waste time. they will
                    match the xtal for you.

xtal is around $15 - $25 per piece ? not very sure
