    Removing tx crystal

These crystals are meant to be replacable or exchangable right? How do I remove the crystal from the module? Just dig and yank?

    #2
Addendum: Do I need tweezers or other tools... or is there a trick to removing the crystal that I'm missing?

P/S: I wanna put the Esky tx crystal from my HB T's tx into my Optic 6 to see if it works.

most standard crystals have 2 pins/legs/connectors. All you need to do is to hold the crystall firmly and give it a pull to get it out of the socket the 2 legs are "plugged" in..

The whole story is very much like how you would remove a 2-pin wall power plug.

If it can be removed in this simple way, then it probably would not be very useful for your TX because the reinstallation of the crystal is the exact reverse process.

        Thks Leonlio.

It's just that for both modules, the crystal is fully inside a small recess with no bit protruding. Hence I can't get a grip on the crystal and wondering if there's some technique to get it out.

          Xtal removal

In that case I will not take the unneccessary risk.. I've seen too many electronics failure that brought down many a nice planes..

Alternative suggestion, get new crystals from ROTOR. Crystal not very xpensive.. I understand the wait for shop to open can be very frustrating.

          Have a good CNY,

Ok I managed to get the crystal out by opening up the module. D'oh. I guess that's the right way. Hope I didn't damage any electronics...

But anyway, the Esky crystal didn't work in the hitec module.

Gotta wait for stock from Rotor then.

            Thks!

if your x'tal do not have a freq tag, (plastic handle), might be a good idea to make a "handle" using tape, so that you can pull it out the next time you want to change it, the extra tape will tuck in nicely by the side. Guess the oem version doesn't have it ?

for removing the x'tal without the "handle", you can use a sticky tape method, try to stick the tape to the x'tal, and slowly pull it out.

The freq tag almost tore off when I tried to remove the crystal by pulling the tag.

since its out, just stick some plactics tapes to strengthen it, poke the 2 pin thur the center of a tape then fold the remainer together for the extra handle/tag. its not the best idea, but it works.

ok will try that. but first, will need to get a hitec 72.490 freq tx crystal so I can fly the darn HBT in the first place.
