Not sure whether those RC flyers are aware of this! Never never get a subsitute antenna for your transmitter if they are not mended to even it can fix nicely.
Every antenna has its own impendance. Even 2 similar length and of same diameter (different brand) doesn't equate to same impedance as the material itself could result in different impedance. This will shorten the transmitting distance.
This is no longer the first time that I came across people getting subsitute for their antenna. The most recent was last Saturday when I visited SLT.
