WingDragon sold at Toy"R"Us : Warning.

    Hi all,

With VivoCity's recent opening, Toy 'R' Us sold WindDragon at S$59.90 (discounted).

This indeed attracted a lot of newbies buying this plane.
I'm not so worried about us who knows how to fly, but newbies.

The problem is, the set came with a "toy" 27Mhz MODE2 lousy one-speed only transmitter, and the range sucks!
The Rudder and Elevator are not properly trimmed (out of box) and I don't think newbies may know how to trim it properly.

We tried today helping one bro to fly, instead of controling the plane, the plane "controlled" us!
We went chasing to pull it back after about the range cut off at about 10~15meters.

Another bro came this evening to Punggol field, same problem.

I would like to appeal to all us, should we see any new folks trying out this plane at the field, pls take some trouble to walk over to give him/her a helping hand. Tell him there's a problem with the range and don't fly too far >15meters. Also, advice him to get a better transmitter/RX unit.

Because the plane is big (42" span) , there's a tendency to fly further and further as long as we can still see.

Also, new folks may not know how to control it properly yet.

It only takes one incidence to get any of our fields ban.

While its a good news to many of us for the low prices (opps Moh!),
the increase of number of newbies purchasing this plane may be an issue if we don't help guide them properly. Though its good to see more into this hobby.

    Cheers!

Punggol Field Walk - Precision Landing Required!

Guys - I am the owner of that WG. But with that kind of price I sort of knew I was taking a gamble and only needed some kick befoire my next plane is fixed.

But the plane is not safe for real beginners and having some months of flight under my belt, I still found it unsafe for me to fly - it goes out of range in about 20metres, or there abouts. I have ready receivers and speedos and can easily make this work - but for those who are thinking of a low startup but do not have the same RC equipment - stay clear.

      Hi phanChinChong,

since you have first hand experience on the plane and you own one, the beginner is more apt to listen to you. The reason is that if we tell them about their not up to safety plane while holding our own fast and furious plane, they will think that we are looking down on them.(nobody like the idea that they bought a lemon)
But in you case you own one, they will respect your opinion more. So, maybe if you have the chance, please approach newbie with the wingdragon and explain the inherent problem. Cool?

I think post newbie can buy this if they want it for spares or upgrade the radio and fly for the fun of it.

But for the newbie, I only hope they stay clear of this plane at the purchase stage such that I don't have to warn them at the field. So guys, if you think you want to start out with this one, think again!!!!

Yes, saw it today. The wing dragon went out of range about 15m away.
Experience bro help run after plane to get it under control

For safety, we need to inform new bros of the inherent range problem.

Guys - to be fair to the plane. Whilst the wing and fuslage is like the one sold by MOh, the electronics are completely different. ANd the electronics appear to be the cause o fthe problems. So this alert is restricted to the ones sold at vivocity.

That's sad to hear... my 1st plane was the WD (yellow version) also on 27mhz (26.995 infact haha). Luckily mine didn't have the range problem.

i didnt expect this .. Hmm... we should write a complain to Toys R Us for the safety issues especially since its a large plane with short range. potential trouble in the making.

newbies, dont be scared. problem can be solved with a Tx and new Rx. provided therre's servos , esc inside and not a circuit

                      WD Hazard

Yep, I too was on site to witness the hair-raising maiden..
I think this TOY is good for ground taxi practice only..
Maybe the TX/RX/ can be salvage for a cheap boat??

                      Fly safe
                      Cheers,

That's dangerous to hear, i think the range is too short even for a boat........

I think Toys R Us ought to be informed about this, could be manufacturing defects. It's dangerous especially for a plane of that size and weight. By selling that plane, it's an accident waiting to happen

Or better still, inform the media and Toys 'R' Us. This way public who already bought the plane will be warned not to fly and have the papers put up a link to daddyhobby on how to fly safely.

People - if you can help pls let whoever can bring this to a greater awareness do so. Toysrus shoudl test its products to make sure kids and their audience are safe.

Leon - its a circuit (raw with no case or shrink wrap) for the receiver and speedo.....
