Agree wif u Xue, if have to pay, we would expect basic facilities like :

        1) Proper drive-in road surface
        2) Sheltered carpark with proper lots
        3) Proper toilet facilities
        4) Enough tables n chairs to go ard
        5) Insurance provided
        6) Bigger sheltered area for fliers n families
        7) Easy assesibility for those without own transport

I guess any club chairman will be liao!!! Till now, I dont tink any official R/C flying clubs meant these requirement yet!

As much as I feel that paying $20 each time for non-members is freaking high and will most likely turn a lot of flyers off, giving the wrong impression as well, I think we should also come to realise the responsibility that the chairman is shouldering.

Upgrading of the basic facilities is a must at the current state and should be carried out as soon as financially allowable, results will make the flying club attractive to all people, possibly increasing membersihp subscription.
However, there must first be people to sign up in order to generate enough revenue for the upgrading costs. Egg and chicken issue here, it's a matter of how well the chairman and committee can assure that the chicken is going to lay the egg.

$20 per entry ...........if every wkend is there for 2 days.....

                $20 X 2 X 4 = $160 /mth

Wow more than 1 yr membership payment

or = 1 pack of 2100 mAh TP Lipo

going to BBAFC is like travel back in time......I was once a member 10 yrs back .....compare to then and now is like no different .....of cause the tree is taller now

not in position to commend as me is no a member anymore

Easier said than done, money cannot buy everything. We must remember that the land that the club is sitting on is goverment land and as such it is not easy getting permission to do up the place, the goverment may have their own plans for the area in future and as such will not allow the club to erect sheltered carparks or improve the roads. We must remember that the place is only a temp site and that the goverment can take it back anytime.
$20 is not much of an issue, RMS charges non-members the same and I think so does PPFC, this is to cover the insurance for the day, what is saved goes to the club for future use.
Just be thankful that we fliers have a place to fly every weekend, because if the goverment really wanted to, they could easily stop our beloved hobby by restricting the places we fly.

Maybe if this hobby gains popularity there might be a park set aside to make a proper runway and such Its a sports right? if olympics includes this as a sport i think this idea can be pushed skyhigh

Like xue said... its a dream but only with dreams will things materialise...

Hi Xue, I am cool, there was nothing intended in my posting regarding Adrianli post. Its like what you said it is just a "dream". I was highlighting a problem which still stands, the land that we are using belongs to the Goverment. With land scares S'pore, any land that you want to lease is going to cost a bomb, when I was flying at Yishun we raised this topic with the authorities for the use of the lorry carpark, the reply was, " pay for the parking lots " and that is per parking lot per month. There is no land in S'pore which does not belong to the goverment, PPFC may have to move in the near future as I have heard that the land has been sold, RMS is also sitting on a ticking clock which is counting down, no one knows when they have to move but the time will come. I believe that RMS may have the most club members than any flying club in S'pore, but there-in lies the problem.....too many fliers...same frequency which means you have to wait your turn to fly and it could be a long wait. Because of the insurance coverage everyone has to be on the legal frequency which 29 mhz to 30.00 mhz. I too have flown at PPFC, they did not charge me for flying, but lets say I crashed my plane into someone's car or hit the factory, will their insurance cover me?? I think not. PPFC will be hosting a Funfly this month...check it out and let me know what you think of their entrance fees, and just think about the insurance, prizes and the other expenses that the club has to bear and you will know why they have to charge you that amount.

Let's say if there was such a park and all the fliers in S'pore were made to fly there every weekend. Just imagine let's say 200 fliers turned up all with 29 mhz as it is the only legal frequency...how many fliers do you think will get a chance to fly? If you'd ask me, I like the situation as it is now, at least we all have a place to fly.

there is still a "yearly" subscription right ? anyway, there are car tracks that is $5 for non members for the whole day, with proper tables and chairs. I don't see why airplane/heli clubs cannot provide the same. We should not just compare what it is there now, we should encourage and motivate them to innovate and improve.

Hi genexis, yes I agree that all the official flying clubs in S'pore have a yearly subscription, but do you know what this subscription is used for? Firstly it goes into paying for 3rd party insurance for the club it can cost from $900 to about $1 200, next is for upkeep, someone has to be paid to cut the grass at these places. Also the clubs might have a float fund in case they may hold events or competitions or just for repairs at the present site.
Car tracks as you mentioned do not require much space to enjoy a race or to play for fun, flying sites however do. Have you asked these places what the $5 is for which non-members have to pay? Are they paying for insurance? Or are you just paying to use the tracks?
I like your point about, "encourage and motivate them to innovate and improve", have you gone to any of the official sites and spoken to the chairman or committee members? If you have than I guess you will know that it is not easy to run the club, you have to make members happy and also not to step on the goverments toes. The official clubs all come under the SYFC perview, even with the SYFC's backing most clubs sites still do not have proper facilities.eg PPFC does not have a proper track for cars to reach the flying site, RMS and BBFC is the same. The reason..."Too Much Red Tape". in getting the authorities to improve or giving the club permission to do up the place.
