Calculating costs of changing vehicle Singapore (Ie. How much to top-up?)

    Dear all,

I am thinking of upgrading my vehicle and would like to know how much I will have to come up with.

Is there some kind of formula to abide by?

If it helps, I have already checked with the bank and seem to have already ?broken-even? - where the current market price of my car is > the outstanding loan amount.

Was unable to find any such information on the car forums so am posting it here so I'm sorry if it sounds like a dumb question. My current car is my first vehicle I purchased and am unsure of the real costs involved in selling and acquiring a new (more expensive) vehicle. I would like to know this so that I can decide wisely when considering a new vehicle.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

You might want to go to this website http://www.oneshift.com/pages/index.php to see what car you have in mind. There are new and old cars listed there. If there isn't any to your liking, you can use the prices stated there as a reference when hunting at other places.

    Good luck!

First, go to onemotoring and check ur current car's paper value : https://vrl.lta.gov.sg/lta/vrl/actio...ateBeforeDeReg
It is the last number in bold.

Second, call ur financial company or bank to check ur outstanding loan for redeem.

Third, go to SGcarmart to check the prices of similar make, model and year as urs. This is to check the market rate. Minus 5-6K off the listed price and thatz the price second hand dealers will take in ur car. If you car is 8 or 9 yrs old, u can opt to scrap it urself instead and get back cash from LTA. Go to authorised LTA scrapyards : http://www.onemotoring.com.sg/publis...operators.html

Fourth, new car or used car buying, talk to the sales person to workout the sums of the new or used car. Then calculate and see the cost of changing ur vehicle.

        Welcome to the money pit.

Thanks bro. What significance does "paper value" of the vehicle have when considering selling your car? Sorry for the noob questions - cannot find these info online anywhere.

          Cheers!

Paper value is the minimum take back value of ur car. Even if u set fire to ur car, drive it into a river, make it lost in JB, blast it to pieces, etc.... LTA will still give u cash for ur car, thatz the paper value, Parf rebate + Remain COE value = Paper value.

Market value - Paper value = Body value or rather mark up of car price.

              Thanks for the clarification bro.

In future when faced with a situation where I need cash urgently (and should I be unable to sell off my car in time), I now know exactly what to do to my car.

Money Pit for car owner to make or loss? Now maybe can make a bit, but if you need a car, in the end its still losing...right? ha ha

I have a 4 year old Honda Airwave, if I change cars now, any chance to still make and get another without losing? Thinking of getting a car that can mount a decent bike rack! ha ha ha

Change ur Airwave to a smaller car, sure can make money.

As long as a sedan or SUV, sure can get bike rack, either at the back or on the roof. Actually Airwave can also mount bike rack on the roof.

If changing to small car then no point la, how to carry all the R/C barang barang...ha. Furthermore I am also worried cannot fetch good price due to dings and dents.

Next week need to send for CSII coating again to see if things improve a little despite the shiny dimples.

Rear Bike rack cannot la, I tried the Saris Bones II, end up sold to one DH bro.

I also called the Thule guy, he said glass roof cannot fit the roof rack. Then there is the other problem, if mount on roof, MSCP is a hazard with my STM. But if I remember to dismount first, where to park the bike while I drive the car to the lot? full of problems la me. LOL!

BTW: does anyone know how to fine tune the proximity sensor on the Viper car alarm?

If u look beyond the brand n age of a sedan car, sure can one. See : http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/l...&RPG=20&VEH=13

As cheap as S$10k also have. Go for COE car. Ultimately ur aim is still to have a car and make a profit from ur current car.

For ur Airwave, u can always drop ur rear seats, remove the front tire of ur bike and the whole bike can go in already. I did that for my old sedan car. My bike size was XL so I know sure can one. I used to ride too like ten yrs ago. But bike now a display set at home. Tire already puncture and my air pump diaphragm also gone.

Not sure of Viper car alarm as I prefer keyless entry alarm.

I am doing that to transport the bike now. after the ride the bike is covered in mud and soil. I have to spread towels to protect the interior and all.....leceh I tell you. LOL

Interest idea to get a COE car,...provided the profit from selling the existing car is substantial. Thanks for the link. Got to do some calc before going further with this.
