    CA on foam

Begining to work on foam and Depron.

I did some test using some cheap $1 CA (I think it is some ELEPHANT brand or something), tested it on white packing foam used in packing DVD and VCR players, it doesn't seem to "melt" the foam, but glue pretty well.

A lot of people say CA will melt foam, or is it just a myth? Or am I just lucky to have a foam-safe CA?

    Will try on Depron tonite.

    A few CA questions:
What's the difference between a $1 CA and a $5 hobby grade CA?
If I don't need 1-3 sec bonding, 10 sec is good enough, can I use normal CA then?
Is $1 CA less "bonding" then $5 hobby CA?

    Cheers!

    Hi

Sorry SonicBoom, let me ride on this thread too coz I am curious abt the CA for foam. Just bought Roket CA yesterday from SHS for $17!!! I think there must be a better solution.

Also, if I want a slower curing CA glue, what can I use. Those that cures fast is not good i find when initially fixing the plane, before you can align the wings, it is already cured and I cannot do anymore adjustment.

    Thanks

      Update.

Tried my $1 CA on Depron, yes, it does melt but very slowly, so, once applied, press the pieces together, they will stick tight. The contact area becomes harder than the original. More brittle?

It is a bit like PVC pipe and solvent glue, it melts the PVC and they stick on contact.

I think when I applied the $1 CA on normal white expanded foam, it melt so slowly that I had them stuck together before any "melting" takes place.

So, I guess odourless CA and POR is 100% no melting???
