    should i join SYFC?

every tuesdays,i see students bring GWS slowsticks to school. Getting very tempted to join but dun hab much interest in planes tho i dun mind learning...but main interest will still be helis.
question is i have done some research and in the aeromodelling section, ppl mainly fly planes...not helis

Senior SYFC members pls. advice thx

Don join SYFC just for the R/C , get your PPL(Private Pilot License) with them and u will never regret for your life ! Afterall, it's a privilage for Singaporeans like u to get free Pilot lessons. Afteall, u need to at least go through Solo flight on any plane, than only u can get up to a heli. As for the r/c , they cannot afford to conduct training for helis as it's EXPENSIVE to start up with students. Oh ya, if u had the opportunity and the quality of fitness ( good EYES ! ) to fly the real plane, start it early.

not so easy to join syfc r/c
u have to start wif control line first
den go on to intermediate and then r/c
      btw its not a slowstick..
      its a pico stick

and PPL is not so easy too..
however if u're in SYFC aeromodelling, u will get piority when u apply for PPL

dun get me wrong.I hope to/aspire to be a pilot in the RSAF hence i'll need a PPL.
I'm into rc HELIS but when it comes to THE REAL THING,i find planes more cool. After all, turbines are a whole new ball game
Heli training?? Dun think i'll need that. Can solo by myself already.
        OH YA...bout the eyesight thing...mine is 6/06 for both...PERFECT

worst thing is i hate the teacher-in-charge

i'm in the PPL course and hopefully will get my PPL in about two months. if you're interested in heli then i suggest don't join r/c. what you fly is far superior to what the kids fly there. its almost a place for budget r/c. i myself being a heli flyer, would think it wouldn't interest you at all.

do consider the basic flying course. study real hard and try to register as early as you can after your prelims or o levels. flying solo is a totally different experience. the feeling of having only the engine sound in the background and the clouds with you with the sparkling sea below...can't be described. its a real challenge, even up to the PPL level. the amount of stuff you'll need to know will far outdo what r/c heli needs. but the rewards, really breath taking...

pulling of G's, at first quite cool...everything like your head and hands feel heavy...after awhile it becomes more of a bother la...hehe. nice thing is that once at 3000ft only you can see the entire island of singapore... even the CBD area looks very small from that 'low' up...

justin:i guess IP should be fine, just go and fill up the form. you do have to make sure you've got a place in the JC already though. i'm currently in singapore poly taking aeronautical eng. did quite ok for o's and wanted to go sajc but couldn't take physics cos i didn't have A maths. so since chem and arts not my kinda stuff, went to poly instead.
