    Homebased printers for recommendation

    Guys,
I'm thinking of upgrading my home printer to a better and heavier duty one. Not sure which brand is more cost effective. I may print about 15 copies a day at most, in B&W.
Not looking for superb quality though, speed is not an issue too.
These are some points I taking into consideration.

    - Cost of ink cartridages
    - Size of printer
    - Any past experiences with mentioned model

    Please share your thoughts.

I previously use Epson inkjet printers..but now I use HP inkjet instead.

I don't like about Epson inkjet because:
My 1st Epson die on me with the problem of missing dots that can't be clean. It also have the problem of paper unable to feed in. (like loosing grips)
My 2nd Epson (inkjet also) die on me with the same problem (different model).

Furthermore, Epson ink is more expensive than HP.

I now using HP Photosmart C6280. So far so good. Five inks cartridge. Color ink around $17.xx. Black is $20? Can't remember. But black ink cartridge is bigger
EDIT: Five colored ink, 1 black.

        Bro...

Black and white printer is history lah... will you still watch B & W TV??

Get a colour laser printer, for the following reason.
        1) Cost per page as compared to inkjet is very very low
        2) Kana water won't smerge
        3) Can print on normal paper, transparency and stickers(for my planes)
        4) Won't have clogging printhead problem.
        5) Won't have dry up ink problem
        6) No need expensive photo paper for photo printing.
        7) Toners more lasting.
        8) Paper tray have cover, won't collect dust like inkjet paper tray.

Please buy during PC show period where all brands slast prices and come with free toner bundle promotion.

I had used Epson, canon, and brother inkjet before I switch to colour laser, you won't go back to injet after using laser colour...

        This model cheap and good...

          Laserjet printer advantages are:
          1. Ink (toner in this case) will not fade over time. (good for doing our R.C. decals )
          2. Waterproof...thus some even use it for P.C.B etching use.

BUT do note that laserjet toner is much much expensive than inkjet. The toner count by $100++ range. Not forgetting that the roller or defuser need to change once in the while. Again, roller and defuser are in hundred of dollar range.

Get a b&w laser. Should be <$150. Do some research, some toners like brother are 3rd party refillable. $20/bottle, good for as least 2.5k sheets.

Original is not too ex either with the right model. My oki is just $150 for a 7k page toner.

With just 15sheets of printing a day, you will probably change new printer before you even need to change the drum.

14 Blades, noted your point and I agree generally but in my case it is purely for work purposes which requires only B&W pages.

Guys, I'm looking at laserjet actually, as like you guys I've gone through bubblejet, inkjet and now laserjet.

Any specific model you guys wish to show?

recently saw the newspaper advertising Brothers Multi function laser printers.
Can even print till A3 size with network printing... I think starting from $400

I am using two brother multi Function printer. Model MFC 8860DN. and MFC 9600 bought three years ago. Printing count:35,000 pages each.
Still going strong. Menu is easy to use
Toner is about $120 per piece.

I have a Oki color laser too. This one running cost very high. Per color is $100. (just opened up and saw five cartridges inside, you can do the math yourself)
I have compared the various brand laser color printer. Compaq, HP, Brothers, and Samsung. I like the print out of Oki the best. However, the menu, is not user friendly.

ANyway, I will not recommend a color laser. If you really need color, you can go for those Epson inkjet printer. Nowadays, the printout doesn't go off when you soak in water. I have tried it before.

Ok, man, I think you are confuse enough.

Bro you can try looking at Samsung and Brother monochrome laser printers.

I have a Samsung ML-1210 bought since 2003 and refuse to die on me yet, thou not as crisp and clean as before (my dog peed on drench the entire printer before, thats another story for another day) but suitable for rough printing which is the only kinda printing I'm doing. Current model should be ML-2XXX already.

I'm looking at at Brother DC-7030 next. Its monochrome laser print with scan, copy and print function. Around $200+.
Practice makes permanent. Perfect practice makes perfect.

A slight correction. I only have the printers for slightly less than two years.
I just checked their warranty. I supposed these are obsolete models by now.
