in fact i graduated frm 4wd to 1/10 buggy and on-road.. then to plane and helis!
its quite cool really, i understood stuff and gear ratio and principles of electric motors, why cars need differentials, how C.G and wheel size affects "handling"..... all this before i hit primary 6!!!
i mean, compared to computer games today's kids grow up on.. this was WAAAAYYYY more fun and educational!
i wish there are still open "public" tracks that shops used to put out. i used to play at Jurong west, CCK and bt timah shopping centre.
anyone know if there are still open tracks anywhere? i think i still got one car somewhere....

Hi pilot_bear,
Yes, I know about there too... headingdown to the race to look.. see.. look... see..
For anybody stiil keen in this litte car hobby... You can
go to this new delicated mini4WD forum to share/learn all about it. Hope to see you guys there
I am 'fastcar' in the new forum.
I used to play these cars too....when I was 10 years old!
I'm 30 now.
Gee, that's a looong time ago!
"Always fly with a responsible attitude. You may think that flying low over other people’s heads is proof of your piloting skill; others know better. The real expert does not need to prove himself in such childish ways..." - the Multiplex Build Manual
Just like RC heli/plane.. I dont think there is age limit to this hobby too
Actually, when I said 'collection' I really meant COLLECTION ...i.e: as in NIBSW condition.
I was 25+ when the 1st generation came (Dash! Yonkuro) and got me started collecting them, 6 years later the 2nd generation 4x4WD came (Let's & Go!!)
I've also collected every single one of the Dungan rocket racers.
Micro Heli... Thanks for putting up all this info on mini 4wd. Now I'm burning inside to go for a race.
But it seems that the track layout is more of a speed circuit instead of a technical one. Like that got no chance. All my 'old' cars were setup fo rechnical tracks.
Cheers,
Adnan
Take what you've got and fly with it - Jim Henson
... no plane will allow a pilot to recover from stupid. You still have to do those piloty things... - Joe Wurts
Electric things run on smoke. Let the smoke out and they won't work.
Hmmmm ....that brings to mind those 'metal cars' speed blazing days !
Used to be crazy about them, 2 wheels behind to provide the drive, 1 roller in front to stabilise the car and a total of 8 (or more) side rollers to keep the car from flying off the track (frequent) If the car does leave the track, there is NO way anybody could run after it and catch it !!!
Lots of fun to build the motors, super neodium magnets, thick fat armatures wires, tiny motor bearings, top secret brushes and comm juices
...and these motor were good for only 1 run ! and the cars can cost upwards of $300 RTR.
But a negative cloud came over the hobby when some 'competitors' started betting in the regions of $10K+ per race.
