          Here is the explaination :

HDB has to consider the overall sentiments of the HDB residents when setting policies and rules. Not all residents like pets, or are comfortable with neighbours keeping pets.

HDB has allowed one dog of an approved breed to be kept in an HDB flat. The approved breeds of dogs are the smaller dogs which are generally more manageable. Please click here for the list of approved breeds of dogs.

Cats are not allowed to be kept in HDB flats as they are nomadic in nature and are difficult to be confined within the flats. Due to the nomadic nature of cats, the nuisances caused by cats such as shedding of fur, defecating/urinating in public areas, noise disturbance etc would affect the environment and neighbourliness in our housing estates. In view of this, HDB has the policy of not allowing cats to be kept in HDB flats.

HDB allows flat owners to keep other pet animals such as fish, hamsters, rabbits, birds, etc which generally do not cause nuisance to the neighbouring residents.

Wah.. like that one ah. Really must question HDB in regards to stray cats found around many HDB flats. Don't you guys think so? Something to ponder tho.

That’s what I have read too Adrian

But then there are some people that fit into that category .....

Some People are not allowed to be kept in HDB flats as they are nomadic in nature and are difficult to be confined within the flats. Due to the nomadic nature of people, the nuisances caused by people such as shedding of skin, defecating/urinating in public areas, noise disturbance etc would affect the environment and neighbourliness in our housing estates. In view of this, HDB has the policy of not allowing some people to be kept in HDB flats.

              Sorry could not resist that
I know that the SPCA has asked that this be looked into but that was back in 2002 and they rejected it.

What would/could they do if you have cats living with you??
              Kick you out?

Personally a cat would be much better then a dog

Sad to say, once HDB made a ruling, its very difficult to change the ruling. Unless u can gather some really big shot Cabinet Minister to speak to them on ur behalf.

Then U also have to come up wif research n statistics to proof that Cats are happy dwellers in a confined HDB flat to support ur claim.

But in SG, its do anything u want n dont get caught!!! FYI, no flamable products to be kept in HDB flats, wonder where those nitro + gasoline guys keep theirs.................

PS Doug, HDB has every right to kick a person out of their flat. Welcome to goverment controlled SG.

stray animals r to be bring to SPCA
                  its good for them
or u can find them dead on the roads

personally, i think cats can climb trees and can easily kill themself when trying to climb HDB too... in fact, they may successfully climb to your neigbour house for food...i dun think your neigbours like it...

                    Bro,

Cats are extremely good at climbing n falling down. They always fall wif four legs on the ground. They dont die from falls. Tried n tested.

If ur house is kept cat proof, ur cat will not be able to climb out of ur house. It is YOUR responsibility.

Most strays brought to SPCA are humanely put to sleep n fed to the zoo animals. Not sure if they still practise tis recycling process.

There was a study done of cats falling from buildings in the USA and it concluded that cats have a greater chance of survival if they fall from a heighs of above 7 levels or below 2.
apparently they have a chance to relax if they fall from above 7 levels and when they hit the ground they absorb the impact more.

The study concluded with one statment ...asking... did the cats volenteer to jump off or where they pushed?

Is it safe to say that no animals were harm during the tests?

                          Hi Doug,

Dont worry about the HDB rules. They are just there but is not enforced. IMO as long as we keep our Pussies (me love those pussies ) indoors and ensure that they are not a nuisance to others it will be fine.

The rules are there mainly as a result of irresponsible owners and the resulting complaints from residents.

As you know I have had cats (Magnificent Seven of them) in my flat since I was little until now.. been 13 years!
                          No major issues..

For you, its only 3 of em at the moment right?

Yes.. You're right.. The rules will be enforce only when there are complains, but again, even when there is, the HDB may not enforce it. unless if they consider it serious to enforce the rules, as after all, most HDB officers have pets or their own.

Anyway, come to think about it.. There are many rules set by HDB, and if we were to do a check on our apartment, I guess many would have flank the test
