    LCD Televisions

    Hi...

I saw the Sharp Aduos TV LC-37AX3M. The picture looks good and the price suits my budget. I also saw the Philips 37inch TV which has higher contrast of 2400:1 and a Samsung TV with a contrast of 4000:1. The Sharp one is 800:1. However, the Sharp's images looks better than the Samsung and the Samsung. I cant really tell how the Philips one is.

Can anyone with the sharp LCD TV AX series give me some views and reviews? Why is the specs lower but it seems sharper? Should I go strictly for the specs (Samsung) or follow my eyes?

eyes can play tricks...more likely the dvd or media that is being played back on which ever screen is optimised for that brand of screens...ever wonder how come the dvds playback on those plasma are so clear and crisp.and once home...your own favourite dvd playback is crappy and dark...

When I saw my LCD TV on display, it was crystal clear but once it's home, it was less than I expected. It's the demo DVD which they played. You can ask them to switch to TV programmes and see the true quality. Nothing to do with the TV, but the quality of transmitting signals. With HDTV signals coming soon, pretty soon you'll get crystal clear pics too.

Just get the biggest resolution you can afford.

BTW, you need to splash some money on a good component cable too and they are not cheap.

Having said that, there's no regret at all.
For some people it's important to show what they have, for others it's sufficient to know that they have it.

I agree with this. To sell things better, they will use DVD in HD. So the pictures looks great, then the model in which they r not promoting, they use normal dvds. There was once I asked them to siwtch either both to HD or both to normal DVD, they say connection canot change!

Also, for samsung, due to the last promotion of the 26", pple selling on auctions sites for like 1200-1300 and singnet now offering 32" sony bravia and pple selling those for like 1400-1500. You might want to consider those.

Heheh. Me signed up for the Singtel promo. Waiting for the TV to arrive.

And just like audio sources, the TV source signal is impt. Crap source = crap image. May be mitigated by expensive cables.
                I can haz diving?

Brothers... first apologies for the full PM box. Didnt realise there is a limit.

Thanx for tthe advise - so basically all the salespersons'advise must be moderated har. I got them to use the same dvd source to test. So looks like that Sharp Aquos should be ok. It looks quite nice but the specs is like 10 times worse than the samsung which looks lousier. The Philips one seems better for tv images but the casing looks real unsightly.

OK me buy Sharp unless bros here have bad experience.

I largely only play 3 types of input on the tv. Xbox360, Baby's Education DVDs and TV. The latter is the lowest on usage. Xbox is the reason for the switch. Downgrade in size from 47inch projection to 37inchLCD. The projection is great for TV but playing xbox can go blind (cannot see). The the real change for the LCD is to play games better. The other aspects dun lose to my projection TV can already.

Hey, you might want to check out parasilk in holland village, last month when I went in looking for lcd tv, they were doing promotion for sharp (I got samsung instead).

He says the price is good, so you might want to check them out

Other than the size, the LCD will win the projection TV in all aspects.
I think Sharp is a good choice. So far they lead in terms of the picture quality. I not sure about the price though.

When I went to buy my plasma/LCD, I brought along my own dvd to do the test. That way, I know what to expect from the system that I am buying and this expectation should not differ when I bring the system home.
In some electronic shops, they use HD video player. This is better than DVD, so the picture quality will definitely be different when you view it at home.

                          Have fun shopping!
