If you intend to set up a wireless network at home with singnet, I would suggest you to get a gateway. What is a gateway? A gateway is a modem+router build in to 1 box. Once you switch on your pwr supply, even if your com is not on, the gateway will log on to your internet, which is a bit different from those modem that singnet gives.
Without security measures anyone can use your network, sort of like leeching off you. However, it is very easy to set up so password. Although not always secure, but nobody will be so bo liao to hack your network, unless you have some important stuff like bussiness transaction.
Gateway is very simple, just plug in power supply, plug in your phone line to the gateway then can use wireless liao. But of course before that must set up your isp id and password.
Does your desktop have a ethernet port? If not you migh have to get the card, which is very affordable. There is a alternative though. For $20-$30 more you can get a wireless adaptor that plugs into your usb slot, so your pc can be away from the router.
Laptop usually comes with wireless adaptor build in already.
If you stay in a big bungalow, you might want to consider a more powerful gateway with more range. The normal ones are good for even big apartments.

I recently got a wireless router just to clear up the wires and mess. Now i can bring my notebook around the house. I decided to get "Cisco Linksys WAG54G V2, Wireless Gateway, 4 port" as it was one of the recommended equipment from the ISP. Quite easy to set up, just need some details from the ISP to "program the router. U can check this thread out:
