      You can try this:

Ask questions or learn from experts in home audio, video, car electronics and more in the ecoustics forums.

      Getting into Hi-Fi?
      looking into which range?
I use to be into Hi-Fi But I think it can cost lots more than RC heli.

          I can help if it's broadcast/studio audio.

My stand for consumer Hi-Fi equipment is that if it is more expensive than professional recording studio equipment, then it is bullshit..

You can only get as good audio as what the recording is...If the recording studio isn't using a $10k speaker system, then you've bought speakers that is more than $10k...then i dunno what to say except that you kena carrot....

Of coz there are other various factors to consider in acoustics and sound reproduction. Just quoting speaker systems as a usual 'kena-chop-carrot' situation.

I agree with 9VDXN. Your sound output can only be as good as the source of the sound/music. ie. if you got 8 bit recording(using only as extreme example), you can't expect it to have 24 bit sound output quality. That is even if you have a Cd player that cost 70k, speakers that cost 100k..etc..

In the same note, if you have a 16bit CD and you encode into 24bit MP3 in the hope that you get better sound quality. No way! In pure science terms, you can't create anything out of nothing..

Now, if you have a good quality recording, then of course a good system will reproduce as closely as what is being recorded. Even the cable makes a different. To many of us, isn't a cable, simply a cable. That's what I thought too until I brought home a set of very expensive cable thinking that it will enhance my listening pleasure. But to my surprise, my favourite CD which i am very familiar with changes its tones and tempo. From the original happy lively sound, now it sounded more like a funeral march song. This is not imaginery, as I did a test with the audiences(my parents, and my relatives). I let them listen to the same song using different cables and ask them what they feel about the song. They said, "why did the same song sound so different?" I told them the difference is in the cables. To be honest, I don't have an explanation why it sounded differently. Anyway, I return the cable back to the shop for a full refund. The moral of my story is that the most expensive is not necessary the best. And most of all, Hi-Fi is a bit of black magic. Many things come into play to re-create the atmosphere of the music when it was being recorded. And when you have norah Jones singing in your living room, that's when you know your black magic has worked for you.

PS: also to add, a brand new pair of speakers will not sound as good as one that has been running for at least months. Good luck

When it reaches the stage of $5000/m, it is no longer listening pleasure that they are seeking...

Thanks for the infos guys but I am more into slightly or reasonable price hi fi system. Its more for my wife and kids listening to their supposedly theurapathic classical music and once a while hubby Scorpion song at full blaze. My wife bought a Grado headset SR225 ($450) and using a cheapo free mini hifi doesnt seem to serve justice to the headset.
My budget is more into $2k average.(Anything more MOF )
Saw a digital amplifier in New York called a Panasonic S-XR70S for US$299 but the voltage is 110v and cant find it in Singapore yet. I am thinking of having separate system instead of all in one type.
New into Hi Fi system so having got No clue as what is good or reasonable except from Magazine or friends.
Luv this daddyhobby (=Ask for Help and Assistance Shall Arrived=)

ridz, you wife has good taste. the grado sr225 has one of the best price preformance of the grado series, but using it to listen to theurapathic classical music seems to be the wrong pairing haha, you shld be listening to scorpion on it. GRADO ROCKS. she shld have gotten a pair of Senn HD600 or HD650 haha

btw to get the best performance of the grado headphones (anything above sr60, if not you're only gettin 85% of the performance), you need to pair it with an head amp. the grado RA-1 amp is made in heaven match for it (if you're good in electronics you can just make your own, its a very simple circuit actually). For a decent cd player to go along, try any of the Marantz series, the entry-level CD4000/5400 (dunno if they still have) or NAD. These 2 brands have good synergy with Grado headphones

Was thinking of getting Bose system initially and even went to their showroom in Singapore twice to listen to their demo and was really contemplating on buying one till one of my friend demo his system that cost much less and sound so much better(I think). I reckon a separate system minimise on downtime due to fault as compare to all in one system.
