Noob rx/tx question

I once bought a KDS450 helicopter out of compulsive purchase and never really put it to good use. I posted to sell it here a long time ago and now bothered to meet up to buy it so it has collecting dust since then. However I recently thought of getting a quad/hexa to do some aerial footage and what not with my GoPro. I've been seeing various RTF off many different sites and I was wondering if I could use the radio and tx that came with the KDS? It's a 8-channel. I thought of doing a DJI Fxxx ARF. Is is it possible to do that? Or the rx/tx is strictly for helicopter ONLY? I don't have a problem dropping huge sum of $$ over a RTF but I just thought of putting the KDS rx/tx to good use while the helicopter continues to collect dust.

u can recycle the tx/rx. youtube is yr best source of reference. personally I wouldn't use kds tx for a phantom though. then again, any brand of tx can fail and result in phantom flyaways. with fpv setup plus gimbal, prob will set you quite a bit.
