    Review: Reflex vs. Realflight G2

Dunno where to categorise this, but since I'm reviewing more for heli model, I shall put this in here...

Cleared my IPPT, so backside itchy, used the incentive $ to go buy Reflex. End up a big disappointment. Why?

    - XTR doesn't feel as accurate as G2 when compared to real models
    - XTR although have lots of parameters, u can't tweak it as much as G2 to make your model feel like the real thing.
    - From my twiddling over the last few days, I still can't get my virtual heli to even 50% close to my models.. But with G2, once i keyed in the various parameters like servo speed, etc....the heli responded to at least 80% close to my real models....

    - In terms of physics simulation, i give XTR
    - In terms of Graphics, i give XTR

Conclusion: I fly sims to practise my maneuvers, so I would prefer realistic simulations over overkill good graphics...Realflight G2's graphics is good enough, and it's still the better choice for me, until I try G3..

This is based on my own opinion and preference, so it's up to individual to decide if you're about to get a flight sim..

I have G2, and tried reflex @ hobby shack. In my honest opinion, GFX and physics engine wise, reflex wins hands down.

To each his own preferences i guess...
If I had not thought that XTR is good, I wouldn't wanna waste my money buying it also....

        Hi,

I agree with you regarding your comment about both sims. I have downloaded an upgrade for the Reflex. Try the link below:-

Yep, already had the 5.02.01 version.....been playing it for the past few days....that's why i came to this conclusion....I prefer G2 better.

I'm thinking of getting a XTR, but low budget. Currently using a G2, anybody wanna trade :P I'll gladly do it

              Hi,

I have also downloaded from the link below, its a Raptor 30V1 and it has more a realistic feels. I kinda like it.

I am using a JR 9X2 for this sim. Try reducing the dual rate and expo setting. Currently me D/R is set at about 55% and expo at +45.

                Hi,

Sorry it is the wrong link I had submitted. The correct lnk :-

                  Hi,

As what 9VDXN has quoated G2 is better which I also agree, 2 things good about Reflex in my point of view is :-

1- Due to its unrealistic simulation charactoristic (heli flying so/too fast which is quite difficult to control), you can in a way improve your flying skill in panic situations.

2-Reflex is 3d ready, no extra setting needed, just flip and automatic you are in the stunt mode where middle stick to full stick is + pitch and middle stick to zero stick is - pitch.

With regards to point 1, you can always set up your G2 to make it react faster.

With regards to point 2, this is why I feel that it's not accurate too....

                      reflex vs Realfight

                      Hi,

I'm new to this thread and new to RC plane. I have recently gone out to buy a RC sim. When I saw the reflex, being a sucker for good graphics, love it immediately. Knowing nothing about what a real RC sim should feel, my only evaluation is by the graphics.
As I was about to get the reflex, I ask the retailer to demo the trainer plane, which is precisely what I need as a beginner. When I saw the trainer plane, I got turn off immediately. The graphics was horrible. Looks like 1990s technology. I even downloaded the demo version from the Web, it did not recognize a JR controller that I borrowed from a fren.

So I went to look at G3, well on the box the graphics definitely did not look as great as the Reflex, but the trainer plane, at the bare minimum was better than that of the reflex. I bought it. After installing, I did an update. Guess what, now you can have a scene as pretty as those on the reflex. Of course the plane graphics is not as nice as those of reflex, but that is good enough for me, considering that it comes with a controller and all the interfaces to whatever controller that I may buy eventually.
Like I say, I am not sure whether G3 or the reflex simulate the RC plane better, but the best bet will be to see which has the longest market history and more software update iteration.

Lemme reveal what i hate about Realflight.....tech support sucks....online server always down....ultra heavily password protected, down to the last hardware.

Tech support email no replies, tech calls to US not answered.

Anyways, graphics aside, i still prefer G2 because simulation is definitely more accurate and precise. I won't be able to comment much for plane models because I don't fly nitro planes, and closest comparision would be to nitro helis and Realflight is .

Hey, have anyone considered G3? The new photofield update makes G3 graphics as beautiful as Reflex. Saw the upgraded pics in the website and couldn't see any difference in graphics quality compared to Reflex. I may be wrong, I only own a G2. But if its truly as good, then G3 is indeed the ultimate sim, having good flight physics with high numbers of "tweakble" parameters, and mind blowing graphics.

                            Hi,
                            9VDXN.
In fact I find that their tech support is pretty quick.
They always reply to my emails. All in all I sent them about 5 emails, and in fact I just send them one at around 10:40pm and they replied in 10 mins time.

I ask them trivial questions like what is the best trainer plane to start with; and things like what is mode 1, mode 2 and how to immport the panaromic pictures, they responded quite quickly.

I'm not sure why they didn't response to you. But one thing I have to agree with you is about the password. In fact the last email to them is asking them to reset my password and they responded quite quickly. As I wanted to re-install the software on my PC instead.

Rest assure I have no association with Realflight nor the distributor. I am merely putting my fair 2cents here.

                            Cheers!

undoubtly, the shadow casting is very good in Reflex.
Once you have the proper PC to run it, the graphic really shine. I connected it to a Hitachi plasma. Looks very good!

The strange thing is, G3 is able to run on my laptop while Reflex cannot. and While reflex runs very well on my PC(which has higher spec than my laptop), G3 did not benefit from the better hardware. I can't explain it.

However, like I mention before, I couldn't get my JR controller to be recongnize by Reflex. I'm sure some tweaking will set it right.

as for control, I will let the pro out there to comment which has a more realistic RC feel.
