Himax not axi for hornet 2

Hi again just though of getting a himax for my hornet instead of an axi.

Mainly it's because i got a problem with hacking up my precious hornet for the axi, which i realise is pretty dumb.

But i figure i can always get the axi for my hornet later and put my himax somewhere in my fleet of planes.

So i just wanted to ask if anyone had any ideas about the himax on the hornet.

And also, how does one get pinions for a himax?

Ya know right now, buddy, i'd put my money on a himaxx. and i sure am gonna get one. I fixed the setting problems and the AXI's not cool as a cucumber in my book.

    AXI pros:
Better fit for the main gear, less cogging
    Outrunner = more power?
    pinions avail everywhere
crashing strips main wheel not the pinion.

    Himax pros?
outter can doesn't move so can attach heat sink.
crashing strips pinions, not the main wheel

    AXI cons?
    Heating problems
    uneasy installation

    Himaxx cons?
    Hard to get pinions

Ur pick buddy. I'd like to say in my flights just now, the motor cutted off 4 times! lucky thing i was HOVERING 2 inches of the ground and 'autorotated' back to the blessed ground.

-> Why are people complaining about solid ground? It's worse when the ground's not solid! Like a pool?

      Hi all

I'm using Himax HA2015-4100 for my Hornet II. I use it for Dragonfly previously.

OK.... I like about Himax is its speed!! (4100KV) but as compare to AXI, its torque and weight loose out.

As for pinion, well... HA2015 series are 2mm Shaft. That means u can just get those GWS pinion (U know... those IPS type for EP350 motor). GWS pinion consist of 2 types. One with wider groove (Use that for DFly or Hummingbird) and narrower groove. Use that narrow groove pinion for Hornet. U can get pinion of 12T, 14T and 16T from GWS.

I currently using 16T pinion for Hornet II. I can achieve very high rotor blades spinning. With that, my pitch changing can be very low. With that, the drag is low and so the current/power consumption are low. For those who saw me flying in the last funfly at AISS, I was using 12T pinion. After comparison, I still prefer 16T pinion

Oh... if u use Himaxx motor, PLEASE DO NOT USE those pinion that comes with the Hornet II. That pinion is carbonite plastic and is only suitable for those motor shaft that has groove (like those Mabuchi S$6.80 or those motor that come with Hornet II). If u going to use the pinion for Himaxx, it will slip and wear out.

Since Himaxx shaft are smooth type, it is recommended (by me) to use those brass pinion.

Oh.. if u compare Himaxx and AXI, Himaxx is cheaper.

Hey AceViperX... U asked about "64p GWS pinions"? Is that the value for the goove angle? Or do u mean those narrower groove pitch? If so, I got it from Rotor Shop. Their pinion is getting lesser and lesser. If anyone knows Walter, can ask them to order in some more?

Those narrower groove pinion is normally use in those EP System that uses in GWS airplane.

with brass pinions on the himax motors i doubt it can be stripped

Btw you don't have any heating and toque problems with the 2015??

I thought the 2025 would be much more appropreate

                Hi YZY

I do have HA2025-4200 and HA2015-4100 motor. Initially I use 2025-4200 for DFly and it is DAMN powerful BUT it draws way too much current due it it is HEAVY!

I then bought HA2015-4100 for my DFly and being using it for few months and still reliable. I then purchase Hornet II recently and now still using that same old 2015 motor. So far so good. As for the torque... well it is ok to me but I can't really tell because I haven't reach the stage of 3D yet. I can hover with no sweat and now trying side hover and if possible lazy 8 figure. Oh.. due to the motor RPM is strong, u can use lower teeth pinion to trade RPM for torque.

Smooth shaft mush go with Brass pinion (This is my opinion and experience). If u use plastic pinion... with that kind of speed, it will slip. Using Brass pinion... it is tight fit.

                  hi guys

...about the brass pinions...someone did bring tat up in another forum...but it was noted by dennis (deetees) tat in the event of a crash, it would be cheaper to strip the pinion rather than the main gear...

i have been using those plastic ones wif a dash of CA and it seem to hold so far, but they do strip easily...

aceviper...wah...long time no see and hear from u

Hey spidey so you're using the plastic MS pinions with your himax ?

                      Hi spidey

If you using plastic pinion over smooth metal shaft, try not to use CA because CA does not stick onto metal very well. Instead try using "Threat Locker" by Loctite. U know.. those kind of glue for tightening/fastening screws to nuts. U can get those in most Handifix or DIY shop.

Super-hornet...think u r right about the CA on smooth metal...will put the loctite asap...thanks

                          Hey spidey

hmmm sounds good, think i'll drop by jet hobby and pick up the stuff one of these days

                          i'm guessing you're using the 10 tooth pinion with a 3s pack ?
any idea how many amps you're hovering on ?

you need green colour loctite to stick pinions to shafts not the red or blue colour ones for screws
