Nine Eagle Solo 100 or 180 Fbl Heli?

I was thinking of getting either Solo pro 100 or 180 heli for learning 3D. Though I have a 450 & 500 heli but scared of crashing them, rebuild time if crash will be slow and replacement parts will be expensive. When flying with 450 & 500 heli I tend to fly within my safety zone as scared of crashing. Which of the heli (100 or 180) is better in terms of ability to withstand crash, power to do 3D, flight stablity, and ease of getting replacement parts? Anyone owning any of these 2 heli can advise? Thks.

    Nine Eagles Solo Pro 100/125/180

I don't have first hand info on SP100 but I feel SP180 is rather brittle. Especially for the tail. I've broken the tail fin many times though I CA-ed it back. The danger is breaking or bending the tail boom. Unlike SP100/125, damaging the tail boom may potentially damage the torque tube and more extensive repairs.

From online reports, SP100/125 is hardier. If you can read Chinese, check out http://bbs.5imx.com/bbs/forumdisplay.php?fid=545 Many are singing praises about how durable the little bird is to crashes.

SP180 is heavier and less durable as compared to SP100/125. On the other hand, SP100/125 performance is hindered by the less responsive electric tail motor, so I assume you cannot do certain 3D acrobatics.

Hi fyreSG, thks for the info. I still can't decide which to get yet. I like the 180 cause of brushless motor & torque tube to drive the tail but can't withstand crashes while the 100 can withstand crashes but motor might not be as powerful compared to the 180.

        Several repairs for my SP180

Hmmm, I don't know how to explain. You see, yes, I am a newbie and I crash helicopters. But I am not a complete newbie so I believe my crashes are quite minimal. I don't do stupid things, I use training skids, and I hit the throttle hold when I know it is too late. I also fly in soft grassy fields.

Yet... time and time again, my SP180 needs repairs, quite a few spare part replacements. And don't forget the long downtime. It is still quite a heavy bird. Even if you crash skids-down, you'll bend the skids and likely wreck the tail fin. If you're unlucky, the tail rotors would go too.

I am very experienced in SP180, in terms of crashing it. I still don't know what's wrong with it, but I'm learning along the way. But I regretted not getting the more durable SP100 as my first CP heli.

If you are not going to do "complicated" 3D that the weaker tail electric motor cannot do, why not get the SP100? I honestly doubt the SP180 can pull off complicated stunts, even though it has a powerful tail rotor.

        Also, why not SP125?

SP180 seems fragile I think I'll go for SP100 then. SP125 looks nice but don't see any LHS selling it. I'll choose SP125 over SP100 if price is not much difference.

Let me know if you're buying a SP100 or 125 online. Maybe buy together can save shipping. I wanna buy a BNF version as I got the TX already.

I might get the sp100 from Jethobby. After checking the price online, difference with shipment included is not very big compared to jethobby.

I see. Not sure if it is possible, but "try" to see if you can get new stocks. The newer batch of the TX supports memory profiles. My SP180 has it.

Do you know the TX model for yr SP180? Let me know so that I can compare whether the one for SP100 is the same.

                    Old vs new J6 Pro

They are all the same - Nine Eagles J6 Pro. The problem is there is no version no. / batch no. to tell which is the newer batch that has the memory profile function. The only way I know is to power it on, and look at the LCD display. Keep throttle to 0.

If the LCD shows "000" at the centre, and after 3-4 seconds, it doesn't change to a single digit number, then it is the old version. Increase throttle will increase the value of "000".

If the LCD shows "000" then change to "0" after 3-4 seconds, that means it is the new batch. The single digit "0" is memory profile number 0, and "1" means profile number 1, and so on...

                      J6 Pro Videos

The manual for the TX is useless. Videos are way better to understand:

                      Part 1 or 3

This is the NEWER batch with memory profiles. See after it powers on, at the 10-second mark, "000" becomes "0".

                        Hi FyreSG,

We met at rcgroups.com under the Solo Pro 100 thread. Can you share with me your settings for the throttle and pitch curve? I've been fiddling around with different values but can't seem it to fly smoothly. Whenever I throttle up to about 60%, the helicopter will suddenly lift up very quickly and I will start crashing it. I fared slightly better using the low rate, but still, I feel like a complete newbie flying collective pitch helis.

                          Hello!

Hi, but I'm just another newbie like you. Only difference is maybe I had read a bit more. I don't really have much experience in CP helis, except for the training on Phoenix RC Simulator. My Solo Pro 180 (different from your SP100) handles differently from yours too. But I'll try to help.

What is the 5-point throttle and pitch curves configured on your TX? Posting it here might give the rest some idea what had went wrong.

Actually, maybe what you are facing is normal - flybarless collective pitch helis are not easy to fly. Get someone who is experienced to fly your heli. Maybe there's nothing wrong, and he'll be able to fly it properly. Do you have experience flying fixed pitch (toy) helis? I flew them and assumed FBL CP helis are about the same... but no, they are not. Have you tried flying a CP heli in a simulator?

Where did you fly your SP100? Is it out in the open where there are light breezes? Wind will send the heli up.

Maybe you wanna start a new thread on your queries? That way, you might get more attention and replies. Good luck and get ready your wallet to buy spare parts.
