4 Bladed Heli

Hello guys

As requested by some of the bros, i'm sharing some pictures of my humble clone Trex 500 scale project. Do feel free to comment - i'm still a major noob and this is my first "build-from-ground" heli.

Kit: HK500GT (Torque Tube)
Cyclics: Savox 1250MG
Tail: Savox 1290MG
ESC: Hobbywing Platinum Pro 80A
Motor: Scorpion 3026-1210kv
FBL system: MicroBeast V3
Rotor head: Align 4 Blade Rotor Head

Maiden hover flight: 9 Jan 2012

One last thing to do before this fella goes into the fuselage - 12T pinion (which is out of stock everywhere in SG!)

Nice. What will be the fuselage? In other word, what scale theme?

It will be perform much better if u make those linkages straight 90 Degree downward to the swash plate. But by doing so, it will not be 90Degree phasing. Thus, u required to set your MicroBeast's Phase offset to compensate it.

Tot of doing similar but Mr Tan mention it is impossible for Protos 500 :P

why not have the new slant gear installed and get an 11t pinion?...i'm currently using the new gear on my trex500 with the 12t pinion with no issues..hope this helps...cheers

I took over ang's MD500 so i'm gonna put that on first. Eventually i'm looking at putting on a UH-60 Blackhawk but i was told the elevated tail will give me a lot of problems.

My linkages are (visually) 90 degrees to the swash - the picture i posted earlier didn't have the swashplate level coz i just took it out of storage. Do you mean like this?



And i'm not sure what you mean by adjusting Microbeast's phase offset. Care to explain more? Its it under section H (swash plate mixer)?

Unfortunately, i wasn't able to find it in Singapore. I shipped it in from infinity hobby - about US$65 before shipping.

One thing to note if you do go for this - its designed to work with the trex 500 flybarless main shaft, which is 5mm shorter than the flybarred main shaft (which i bought - i didn't know there was such thing as a flybarless main shaft and the 4 bladed head manual also didn't mention).

For me, i didn't bother to change it and waste money so i just lengthened the servo-swashplate linkages by 5mm. FYI.

Hmm, the main shafts for trex 500 and protos are both 8mm thick. So that one pass, but need to see where the screw holes are, etc.

But seriously, why put on a scale fuse (which is the only reason you'd want a 4 bladed head) on a protos? So wasted!! Start a trex (original or otherwise) project lar! Hehe..

Thanks for your suggestion. I looked into it but a 11T pinion on the slant gear will give me too high a headspeed.

I need a lower headspeed while maintaining the motor speed for more torque to push the heavier head and increased drag from having 4 blades.

Slanted gear - 134T
Normal main gear - 162T

Given the following conditions:
- 23.40V (6S Batts)
- 90% efficiency factor
(Using Dark Horse Helicopter Power & Setup Calculator - http://dhrc.rchomepage.com/calc.htm)

I get the following theoretical rotor headspeeds:

12T pinion on a normal main gear - 1888rpm
11T pinion on a slanted gear - 2092rpm

Am i doing this wrong?
