On the 21st of July 2011, the Naval defense institute of technology and Kasama helicopters Ltd signeda joint research project for the development of a vertical takeoff unmanned aerial vehicle or UAV. Over 20 million Thai baht in funding will be allocated for research / development and production of unmanned aerial vehicles for use by the Thai Navy.
The Navy has partnered with two private companies one being Kasama helicopters for research and prototyping. The unmanned aircraft will be designed according to the operational needs of the Thai Navy.
The proposed design for the UAV platform will be different from what has been seen before. It will be approximately two years before the first UAV platforms will enter production and be used operationally. "
