    Scorpion 4035 - 400 or 500

    Hi
Another question as buying the motor next. Not sure to buy 400 or 500 kv as still new to art of electrics. Any help welcome. I'll eventually try mild 3D but still on basics

Given this, should I just get the 400 with larger pinion gear?
    1) Flying skills don't need a 500 torque
    2) Don't want to strip main gears (no time to fix)
    3) Would like more flight time
    3) 400 motor runs cooler?

    However
    1) 400 motor can bog - is this a problem?
    2) How much higher is head speed (estimate) and more dangerous?

Thanks in advance and hope I'm asking the right questions
    Ken

I guess 400 and 500 refers to the motor's kv, right??? Check with the manufacturer's recommended motor kv.

Assuming batts will remain the same when using either 400 or 500kv motor, then the only variable is ur pinion.

400kv, u will need more teeth pinion to achieve the same headspeed compared to a 500kv motor.

From my experience, less teeth contact between the pinion and the main gear, more likely u will strip the main gear when u apply full collective/punch. U will need to find the optimal setup thru trial n error. After stripping my main gear three times then I realised.

I think that which kv to use depends on what headspeed you are trying to run. The best way before you buy is to do more research at other forums to see if the motor is sutiable for your heli and the configuration that you will be running before you buy.

Another factor is your ESC. The ESC governor may be more efficient if it was in the 80% range. If you choose a motor is that is higher kv than what your target headsepeed is... you may be forced to run your governor at a lower percentage... some ESC will not work too well with low governeor %.

      Thanks!

Great! That was the practical advise I was looking for. Many thanks

        Adrian
I'll go with the lower Kv as don't want to strip gears, don't need all that power right now

        Erwin
Sounds like a a lower Kv motor more suited given my (limited) flying skills though.

Howver, not done enough homework to know what HS I need but lot of 700 noobs in the forums mention 1900 HS.

The original Aurora FBL head looks much much better see carefully, u will notice the FBL head has a longer "skirt" covering the main shaft.
