And the reason you are not is you have already invested in the various FBL electronic and also lots of futaba receiver and not SBUS type ?

          Futaba goes flybarless!
The Futaba CGY750 3-axis gyro and governor features incredible performance due to it's exceptional sensor design, and it's advanced/adaptive PID control algorithm. Basic and Expert menus provide for fast and easy set-up! The new design provides a large, easy-to-read OLED display with the fastest operation possible in both gyro and governor. The user updatable firmware can be updated from the PC through the CIU-2. And because the CGY750 is S.Bus capable it has only a one-wire connection to the receiver. Virtually all swash plate types are supported as well as all three servo types. Dynamic operation ranges of up to +/- 1,200 deg/sec are possible with this unit!

The CGY750 will be available in early 2011, price is to be determined. Keep checking here and on www.futaba-rc.com for more information.

Important is the price. Right now Beastx's price point leads the FBL gyro market. And the performance is good too. And then there are rumours of Spartan's FBL gyro. If it can make an impact like the Quark, other brands could go obsolete.
            Beastx installed and flying ...

Looks like it is about the same size as GY701, since the number of pins are the same.

From the pic, we can also tell it only support S.Bus, since there are no connections to the Rx other than the S.Bus. That means another USD$140 to get the R6108SB. This also brought me to the next thought: it will only be drawing current via the Sbus port. I hope that s.bus cable will be thick enough to support 5 digital servos without melting. I will be concern since I am using 3x610, 1xBL251, 1x650.

Otherwise, we will need Y-cables to power the servos..

Also, point to note, although it mentioned CIU-2 briefly that it can be used to upgrade firmware, we cannot use CIU-2 to configure it. They mentioned the same for GY701. Currently, there is no application supporting the link, other than for GY520. The GY520 app doesn't work on GY701. We still need to press the buttons on the console to program it. Hopefully they will release a software to support the programming via the PC.

The CGY750 could be about the same size as the gyro sensor for GY701, that's means it is smaller than a GY520.

For those eyeing on GY701, you might want to know that there is no input pin for arm/disarm the governor. So, we can't exactly switch the governor off in flight. It is only possible via the S.Bus, or pre-program to disable on the ground. Arm/disarm is controller by the throttle input when using without S.Bus. Gy701 auto shut the Governor when it detects error with sensor, It only works between 1000-3000rpm. That means, if a magnet is lost in flight, it goes manual mode by itself. It is also mentioned that the Gyro senor needs to be 6" away from the engine to minimize sensing the vibration from the engine.

How the GY701 performs.. I dunno.. haven't maiden my heli and I am not even a sports flyer, so I can't stress test it..

And yes, it support 6V, as per someone's mail to Futaba. Works fine with Align's 2-in-1.
                huh

Ok Mr Bobby (Nice Guy) Watts checked out the CGY750 and gave a glowing report:

Looks like Futaba'sa going all out for this baby, except that it may appeal to Futaba fans only, especially with control integration with their TX.

But there are also rumours Spartan's got their own contender for the FBL crown, although it won't be out till at least second half of next year . Spartan followers will want to look out for this one ...

My Black Mini VBAR is already running V5.1 and it fly super and very good with paddle simulation at 20. Currently my best flying FBL.....that is before I get CGY750 in the air.

                              Quick Review

Managed to got it setup and test flights over last two days.
Found that I am spending more time I expected to setup, but this got nothing to do with the setup of CGY750, but rather trying to remember and figuring out how program a Futaba transmitter like setting up idle Up...

                              Setup
                              • Setup is straight forward, especially for those familiar on flybar setup
                              • found it is easier to go straight playing around the actual setup then reading the manual
                              • Key to CGY setup is must have mechanic setup to get "zero pitch" then set max and min pitch. whereas other FBL unit you can actually use electronic to compensate the not ideal mechanical setup ( One that is more flybar like )
                              • The best part of CGY750 is the integration of Futaba Transmitter, where you can totally control Aileron, Elevator and Rudder gyro gains through transmitter making it very easy to tune. Except HC3-SX where you can program tune from transmitter the Rudder and Cyclic (not split between elevator and aileron ), all other FBL can only do rudder and need a pc or control panel to set the cyclic gain.
                              • Only negative and also +ve part is the FBL gyro is so small but need two boxes. It is growing on me that now it is easier to change setting by putting the control box at a convenient location while sensor is mounted at the right place
                              • Do lost your supplier plastic screw/adjustment tools, as you will really need it to do programming

                              Flying
                              • 1st two flights was good, but feel a bit loose on cyclic, then realise I had the sensor on a location where you can see a small play moving up and down the base inside the frame.
                              • Moving it to current location totally solve the issue, 3 more flights and it is flying very well
                              • Having over last 3 weeks been testing between BeastX, HC3-SX and VBAR 5.1. I have an of how a good FBL should response to my "average Joe flying skill". And the CGY750 did not disappoint me at all.
                              • It fly very smooth and responsive when you want it to. The tail is great also.

Conclusion[*] One thing that I am not comfortable is to trim the heli out ( aka AUto-trim on VBAR ), you would need to turn cyclic AVCS off to normal mode (rate mode) and use sub-trim to trim it out. You expect to tur off AVCS to Normal while hovering and start triming....[*] I have never fly an FBL hei without the AVCS/HeadHold/gyro compensation turn on , and also to trim it out would probably need to make sure my mechanic setup is done properly.
[*] At this point I would rate that CGY750 is on par with VBAR 5.1.
