    Trying out nitros

    Hi everyone
I wanted to ask what I needed to consider if getting a nitro heli eg safety, new skills, pros and cons etc.

TmMugen's TT x50 thread was too infectious!

    Thanks
    Ken

Flying skills will be the same as electrics, but then you are dealing with bigger size heli, which may or may not be intimidating in the beginning.

Pros: Longer flight times (as long as your rx battery can last).
Just fuel and go. Smoke and engine smell (if your a petrolhead), sound of exhuast.

Cons: Fustrating if you reach flying site ans engine cannot start, Oily hands, oily body if you fly close. Cleaning up the heli after your done for the day. More equipment to bring along to the field.

These are some of the points that i can think off my head, coming from one who just started nitro a couple months back, also THANKS to Mr tmmugen's poison.

Nitro heli is not as powerful as most of the current electric heli, you need to learn collective management.

With nitro, the main benefit is there is no ESC cut And I like the sound, smoke that an engine makes..

Join us in Tampines Industrial Ave 2 and I am sure you will be POISONED big time by a lot of the kakis there..

            Ask yourself these question....
Are you really a nitro person?
Do you like nitro oil on your skin which is kind of sticky?
            Do you like nitro smoke?
Are you a patient guy? (Nitro Heli take up a lot of time to tune and set up properly before flyable in peace. Whereas an electric Heli take up only quarter of the time spend on a Nitro Heli to be flyable in peace and so it's the flight time)
Do you prefer to be a slave of a nitro Heli (Sayang and clean up the mess that a nitro Heli cause) or a master of an electric Heli (Plug and play after it has been set up nicely. Clean and oil once every 2 weeks unlike nitro Heli which you need to clean everyday otherwise it will be sticky all over the Heli)

            不在乎天长地久,只在乎曾经拥有。
            长痛不如短痛,短痛不如不痛。
Too much $$$ fly fly fly, Little $$$ less fly, No $$$ see people fly, Save $$$ buy and fly.
If you take care of your heli, your heli will take care of your pocket.
Be gentle with your heli so that your heli will be gentle with your pocket.

Most importantly, you gotta experience it yourself before jumping in the wagon..

If you have a nitro heli flyer fren, you can help him load up his field equipment, fuel up his heli, stand beside him when he is flying (unless he offers to let you fly his heli), and when he is done, help him clean up the heli.

See if you like the smoke and smell and oily feel..

Hmm..Nitro on your skin? It is just a little bit lah..

Cleaning is parts and parcels of RC..Just little or more.. I do agree that nitro is a little more works, but I guess that is also the fun part..Electric you also need to charge up your batteries mah which is the biggest turnoff for me..Charge like siao and fly only 5 mins..

nitro helis need "on-site" maintenance work like fueling, cleaning, carrying field equipment to the flying site etc.

EP helis need "at-home" maintenance to charge batteries and must monitor regularly.
End of the day EP too time consuming for me. Plus nitro engine is alot more reliable and more shiok

I need to add one more points. Nitro engine nowadays is very very easy to tune..!! Once tuned in, they are will be producing the same constant power band in the whole flight time whereas the electrics, you will find a power loss towards the end.

One big PLUS PLUS with nitro, you can fly as many flights as you can so long your receiver battery can last. To newbies, this is going to be great for learning..

End of the day these are all preferences to individuals and nitro just happens to be my preference..Again, my words are all biased towards nitro.
